Appointment of bishop of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo, Paraguay
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Miguel Ángel Cabello Almada as bishop of the diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo, Paraguay, transferring him from the diocese of Concepción.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Miguel Ángel Cabello Almada was born on 4 September 1965 in Piribebuy, Department of Cordillera, and was ordained a priest on 15 September 1991, and incardinated in the diocese of Caacupé.
He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the National Major Seminary of Asunción, obtaining a licentiate in pastoral science.
After ordination, he served as head of the Dulce Nombre de Jesús Shrine, Piribebuy (1991-1994), formator at the National Preparatory Seminary of Villarrica (1994-1995), pastoral vicar, supervisor of vocational pastoral care and lecturer at the Higher Institute of Theology (1985-2005), parish vicar of Inmaculada Concepción, Tobati (1998-2000), and parish vicar of Niño Jesus, Primero de Marzo (2000-2005). He was awarded a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, and went on to provide pastoral service in the diocese of Palestrina, Italy, and to serve as head of the Dulce Nombre de Jesús parish, Piribebuy (2009-2012), spiritual director of the National Preparatory Seminary of Caacupé and professor of dogmatic theology at the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (2009-2013).
On 11 July 2013 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Concepción, and received episcopal consecration the following 15 September.
Within the Episcopal Conference of Paraguay, he has been chair of the Episcopal Doctrinal Commission, head of National Family Pastoral Coordination, member of the Commission for the National Major Seminary, collaborator with the Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults, and delegate to the Sessions of the 16th General Assembly of the Synod.
