The Association took its first steps during the time of the Easter Solemnities of 1995, when Mons. Adriano Paccanelli, the Master of the Liturgical Celebrations of Saint Mary Major, under the benevolent auspice of the late and beloved Cardinal Ugo Poletti (at that time Archpriest of the Liberian Basilica), began to lead some people to the service of the Altar of the Lord. Just like everything that brings joy, those who were the first members of the Association felt the desire to give other brothers the chance to participate in the same experience and to share with them the privilege of providing a liturgical service in the Marian Basilica, according to the competencies proper to the laity. The increase in the Association’s membership and in the services provided required the promulgation, in a Statute, of the principles and values which have inspired its constitution and represent the reason for its existence. On March 31, 1996, on the Solemnity of Palm Sunday, the Statute was made official by the Archpriest Cardinal who benevolently approved it with his signature. The Statute constitutes the first fundamental stone of an edifice to which the Rule definitively approved on July 18, 1998 has been added. The Ceremonial proper to the Association will be added to these documents. |
