Appointment of bishop of Raphoe, Ireland
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Niall Colla s bishop of the diocese of Raphoe, Ireland, transferring him from the diocese of Ossory.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Niall Coll was born in Letterkenny on 25 August 1963. He carried out his studies in theology at Saint Patrick’s College in Maynooth, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, where he was awarded a doctorate in sacred theology.
He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Raphoe on 3 July 1988.
He has held the following offices: teacher at Saint Eunan’s College in Letterkenny (1988-1992), teacher at Saint Patrick’s College in Maynooth (1995-1998), parish vicar in Dungloe (1998-2001), teacher of religious studies and religious education at Saint Mary’s University College in Belfast (2001-2019), parish priest of Drumholm-Ballintra (2019-2021), and subsequently of Donegal (Tawnawilly) and Clare; organizer of conferences and spiritual exercises for the clergy; writer of articles for various publications; and editorial director of the journal Le Chèile.
He was appointed bishop of Ossory on 28 October 2022, and received consecration on the following 22 January.
