This morning, 16 October 2025, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in audience, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the President of the Republic of Chad, His Excellency Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, accompanied by His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial talks held at the Secretariat of State, the good relations between the Holy See and Chad were emphasized. The importance of peaceful coexistence between religions and the promotion of peace was recalled.

The discussions then turned to a number of issues concerning bilateral relations and topics relating to the regional situation and the challenges facing the country.
