Resignation and election of eparchial bishop of Sokal-Zhovkva of the Ukrainians, Ukraine

The Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the eparchy of Sokal-Zhovkva of the Ukrainians presented by Bishop Mykhaylo Koltun, C.SS.R., and has elected Bishop Petro Loza, C.SS.R., until now auxiliary of the aforementioned eparchy, as bishop of the same.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Petro Loza, C.SS.R., was born on 3 June 1979 in Kolodentsi in the Lviv region. In 1997 he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, in which he gave his perpetual vows in 2003. He began his priestly formation in the Seminary of the Redemptorist Fathers in Lviv and carried out his studies in theology of the Universität Innsbruck in Austria.

He was ordained a priest on 26 August 2007.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest in Vinnysta, parish administrator in Hnizdychiv-Kohavyno, provincial counsellor in his own religious congregation (2011-2014), parish administrator of Saints Peter and Paul in Chernihiv and at the same time, chaplain of the two prisons in the same city (2014-2018).

He was elected auxiliary bishop of the eparchy of Sokal-Zhovkva of the Ukrainians on 12 April 2018, and received episcopal ordination the following 12 July.

 

Resignation and election of metropolitan archbishop of Ternopil-Zboriv of the Ukrainians, Ukraine

The Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archeparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv of the Ukrainians, presented by Bishop Vasyl Semeniuk, and has elected Bishop Teodor Martynyuk, M.S.U., until now auxiliary bishop of the aforementioned eparchy, as metropolitan archbishop of the same.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Teodor (Taras) Martynyuk, M.S.U., was born on 1 February 1974 in Dora (now part of Yaremche) in the province of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. He studied at the pedagogical institute of Krements, in the province of Ternopil.

In 1993 he entered the Order of Studite Monks, at the Lavra of Univ. As a novice, he completed his philosophical and theological formation at the major seminary of Lublin and the Catholic University of the same city. In 1997 he gave his solemn vows (minor skhima) in his Order. On 20 January 2000 he was ordained a priest.

After priestly ordination he carried out various activities at the Lavra of the Dormition of the Studite Monks in Univ and Saint Michael’s Monastery in Lviv (2001-2005). He was awarded a doctorate in oriental canon law at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome (2005-2010), and in 2010 he was elected for a five-year term to the office of Igumeno of the Lavra of the Dormition in Univ.

Since 2011 he has served as lecturer in oriental canon law between the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. He was elected auxiliary bishop of the archeparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv on 12 March 2015, and received priestly ordination the following 22 May.

 

Resignation and election of archepiscopal exarch of Donetsk, Ukraine

The Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archepiscopal exarchate of Donetsk, presented by Bishop Stepan Meniok, C.SS.R., and has elected Bishop Maksym Ryabukha, S.D.B., until now auxiliary of the aforementioned exarchate, as archepiscopal exarch of the same.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Maksym Ryabukha was born on 18 May 1980 in Lviv. In 1997 he entered the Society of Saint Frances de Sales, and after the initial formation, completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Salesian Pontifical University. He continued his formation in civil law at the Interregional Academy in Kyiv, an obtained a postgraduate qualification in school management at the Lviv Polytechnic and a master’s degree in social pedagogy at the National University of Zakarpattia.

He received priestly ordination on 4 August 2007.

He has held the offices of director of the school of catechetics of the parish of Pokrov of the Most Holy Mother of God in Lviv, head of the Oratory of the Salesian Community in Vynnyky, director of the community in Dnipro, administrator of the parish of Saint John Chrystostom in Kyiv, head of university pastoral care of the archeparchy of Kyiv, local collaborator at the Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine, lecturer in pedagogy at the Greek-Catholic Major Seminary in Kyiv, and vicar of the superior of the Ukrainian Salesian vice-province.

He was elected auxiliary bishop of the exarchate of Donetsk on 19 September 2022, and received episcopal ordination the following 22 December.
