Resignation and appointment of bishop of Gaspé, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Gaspé, Canada, presented by Bishop Gaétan Proulx, O.S.M.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Claude Lamoureux, of the clergy of the diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe, until now vicar general, as bishop of Gaspé, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Claude Lamoureux was born on 11 April 1962 in Saint-Hyacinthe in the diocese of the same name. He entered the Montréal Major Seminary and received the Certificat en sciences religieuses. He continued his studies in theology at the University of Montréal, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 9 June 1990 for the diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe. In 2000 he obtained the Maîtrise in public administration from the University of Québéc. In 2002 he received a diploma for the second cycle of dispute prevention and resolution at Sherbrooke University.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar at Notre-Dame-du-Très-Saint-Sacrement in Saint-Hyacinthe (1990); vicar at Saint-Joseph in Granby (1990-1994); parish administrator (1995-1996) and parish priest (1996-2002) of Saint-Luc in Granby; moderator at the parishes of Saint-Luc and Saint-Joseph (2002-2013), Saint-Patrick (2002-2006), Sainte-Famille (2009-2013), Sainte-Trinité (2013-2018) and Saint-Joseph (2014-2018) in Granby; coordinator of the Prevention Against Harassment, Violence and/or Discrimination Committee (2019-2022); since March 2018 vicar general, moderator of diocesan services, accompanying priest of permanent deacons, director of the Priestly Vocations Work and Member of the Christ-Roi Major Seminary Corporation; since 2021, parish administrator of Saint-Joseph and Saint-Pierre in Sorel and Sainte-Anne in Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel. Since 2018, he has been titular canon of the cathedral chapter of Saint-Hyacinthe.

 

Appointment of bishop of Sessa Aurunca, Italy, and union in persona Episcopi of the dioceses of Sessa Aurunca, Teano-Calvia and Alife-Caiazzo

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Giacomo Cirulli of Teano-Calvi and Alife-Caiazzo, until now apostolic administrator of Sessa Aurunca, as bishop of Sessa Aurunca, uniting the three dioceses in persona Episcopi.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Giacomo Cirulli was born on 25 September 1952 in Cerignola. He graduated in medicine and surgery from Federico II University of Naples in 1981. He carried out his formation in the priesthood at the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1984 and a licentiate in sacred scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 7 December 1982, and incardinated in the diocese of Cerignola-Ascoli-Satriano.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of the parish of Sant’Antonio di Padova in Cerignola (1984-1996); rector of the diocesan semiary (1996-2001); director of diocesan Caritas (1988-2001); since 1988, member of the Presbyteral and Diocesan Pastoral Council; regional delegate for Caritas (1989-1994); teacher of religion at the Liceo Ginnasio Zingarelli of Cerignola (1985-1991); teacher of sacred scripture at the diocesan Institute of Religious Sciences (since 1985) and at the Apulian Theological Faculty (1992-2011); director of the Catholic Medical Association (1992-1996); episcopal vicar for ministers and for the ongoing formation of the clergy (1996-2001); director of youth vocational pastoral care (1996-2001); member of the College of Consultors (1998-2001); member of the Episcopal Council (1996-2001); since 2001, vicar forane and exorcist of the diocese and parish priest of the parish of the Beata Vergine Maria Addolorata in Orta Nova; since 2012, episcopal vicar for culture and member of the episcopal council; from 2016 until his episcopal appointment, vicar general.

On 14 September 2017 he was elected bishop of Teano-Calvi, receiving episcopal consecration the following 7 December.

On 26 February he took on the governance of the diocese of Alife-Caiazzo, united in persona Episcopi with the diocese of Teano-Calvi.

On 3 September 2022 he was appointed apostolic administrator of Sessa Aurunca.
