The body of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will rest at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery until the early morning of Monday 2 January; no official visits or public prayers are planned.

On the same day, starting at 9.00, the body will lie in state in Saint Peter's Basilica to allow the faithful to pay their final respects.

On Monday the Basilica will be open from 9.00 to 19.00, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7.00 to 19.00.

The funeral presided over by the Holy Father will be celebrated in Saint Peter's Square on Thursday 5 January at 9.30. No tickets will be provided for attendance. Those who wish to concelebrate may contact the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff (cf. Notification of 31 December 2022).

The official Delegations present will be those of Germany and Italy.
