Appointment of members of the Dicasteries of the Roman Curia

The Holy Father has appointed the following as members of the Dicasteries of the Roman Curia:

1) In the Dicastery for Evangelization: Cardinals Arthur Roche, prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments; Lazzaro You Heung-sik, prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy; Filipe Neri António Sebastião do Rosário Ferrão, archbishop of Goa and Damão, India; and Giorgio Marengo, I.M.C., prefect apostolic of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia;

2) In the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments: Cardinal Lazzaro You Heung-sik, prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy;

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Viterbo, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Viterbo, Italy, presented by Bishop Lino Fumagalli.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Orazio Francesco Piazza as bishop of the diocese of Viterbo, Italy, transferring him from the diocese of Sessa Aurunca.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Orazio Francesco Piazza was born on 4 October 1953 in Solopaca, in the diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de' Goti (BN). He attended the Pius XI Pontifical Regional Seminary and the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy – Sezione San Luigi in Naples, studying philosophy and theology. He then obtained a licentiate and doctorate in dogmatic theology at the same Faculty.

He was ordained a priest on 25 June 1978 for the diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de’ Goti.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Telese Terme (1978-1981); rector of the Church of the Santissimo Corpo di Cristo in Solopaca (1981-1992) and of the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima del Roseto in Solopaca (1988-1992); unitary diocesan assistant for Catholic Action (1989-2013); episcopal vicar for the the Evangelization and Witness sector (2002-2013); unitary regional assistant for Catholic Action (1998-2013); member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council, canon theologian of the Cathedral, magistral chaplain of the Military Order of Malta and Knight Prior of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre; lecturer in social ethics at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sannio in Benevento (1997-2013); founder and director in 2004 of the Centro Studi Sociali Bachelet; full professor of ecclesiology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy Sezione San Luigi in Naples.

On 25 June 2013 he was appointed as bishop of Sessa Aurunca, receiving episcopal ordination on 21 September 2013 in Telese Terme.

He is a member of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, Proclamation and Catechesis.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Braga, Portugal

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Delfim Jorge Esteves Gomes, of the clergy of the diocese of Bragança-Miranda, until now parish priest and delegate for the clergy, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Braga, Portugal, assigning him the titular see of Dumio.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Delfim Jorge Esteves Gomes was born on 1 January 1962 in Bragança, in the diocese of Bragança-Miranda. After completing his studies at the major seminary of Porto, he obtained a master's degree in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 3 September 1989, and incardinated in the diocese of Bragança-Miranda.

He has held the following offices: prefect and, later, vice-rector of the major seminary of Saint Joseph (1990-1992); parish priest of Vila Flor (1992); archpriest of the Arciprestado de Vila Flor (1995-2012); head of the Team of the Project to Fight Poverty (1995-2000); district coordinator of the Life Project (1996-2000); district coordinator of the Portuguese Institute of Drugs and Drug Addiction (2000-2022); episcopal vicar for clergy (2011-2021); vice-president of the diocesan Clergy Institute (since 2012); director of the diocesan Secretariat for Catholic Moral and Religious Education (since 2016); member of the National Secretariat for Catholic Moral and Religious Education (2016-2022).

He has also been a member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council and the diocesan Pastoral Council; rector of the diocesan shrine of Nossa Senhora da Assunção; coordinator of the pastoral dimension in the diocesan seminary.

He is currently pastor in solidum of the Pastoral Unit Senhora da Assunção of the Arciprestado de Moncorvo and delegate for the Clergy.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Rennes, France

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Ivan Brient, of the clergy of the diocese of Vannes, until now vicar general, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Rennes, France, assigning him the titular see of Vaison.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Ivan Brient was born on 17 January 1972 in Aurau, in the diocese of Vannes. After studying chemistry, he attended the interdiocesan seminary in Vannes and the interdiocesan seminary in Rennes. Between the first and second cycle of the seminary, he had a missionary experience in Burkina Faso.

He was ordained a priest on 17 June 2001 for the diocese of Vannes. After priestly ordination, he was awarded a licentiate in sacred scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem.

He has held the following roles: since 2004, diocesan delegate for general ongoing formation, professor in the Saint-Yves Seminary in Rennes, at the service of the parishes of Malestroit, Bohal, Caro, Missiriac and Saint-Marcel; member of the College of Consultors (2006-2011); since 2013, parish priest of Ploemeur, accompanying priest of the Breton Language Commission and member of the diocesan ongoing formation team; since 2015, administrator then rector of the parish of Larmor-Plage, remaining parish priest of Ploemeur and in charge of the ongoing formation of priests; since 2016, archpriest of Pontivy, parish priest-dean of Pontivy, rector of Le Sourn, Saint-Thuriau, Cléguérec, Saint-Aignan, Sainte-Brigitte, Séglien, Neuillac, and Kergist; since 2017, territorial vicar general for the villages of Auray, Lorient, Pontivy and Gourin-Le Faouët.
