Resignation and appointment of bishop of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, Italy, presented by Bishop Riccardo Fontana.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Andrea Migliavacca of San Miniato as bishop of the diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Andrea Migliavacca was born on 29 August 1967 in Pavia, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the diocesan seminary in 1986, received priestly ordination on 27 June 1992, and was incardinated in the diocese of Pavia.

In 1996 he was awarded a degree in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has held the following offices: ecclesiastical assistant to the scout group (1996-2000); lecturer in canon law at the Theological Study of the Seminary and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Pavia-Vigevano (1996); pastoral collaborator at the parish of San Genesio ed Uniti (1996-1997); parish administrator of San Genesio ed Uniti (1997-1998) and from 1997, deputy episcopal chancellor; ACR and youth sector assistant at diocesan Catholic Action (1997-2008); from 1997 judge of the Regional Ecclesiastical Court of Lombardy, deputy judicial vicar of the diocese and from 2007 diocesan judicial vicar (1997-2007); parish administrator of Albuzzano (1998); secretary of the 20th Diocesan Synod (1999-2002); head of the service for youth ministry and oratories (1999-2010); regional assistant of the youth sector of Catholic Action (1999-2001); unitary assistant of diocesan Catholic Action (2001-2003); since 2001 Rector of the diocesan seminary and director of the Diocesan Vocations Centre, professor of religion at the San Giorgio Classical Lyceum (2005-2012); since 2007 diocesan assistant for the lay consultancy; since 2012 canon of the Cathedral Chapter and since 2014 professor of Canon Law at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy.

He was elected bishop of San Miniato on 5 October 2015, receiving episcopal consecration the following 9 December. He began his ministry in the diocese of San Miniato on 20 December 2015.

Within the Tuscan Episcopal Conference, since 2019 he has served as delegate for the Pastoral Care of Leisure, Tourism and Sport, and for Health Pastoral Care.

Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, since 29 September 2021 he has served as president of the Council for Legal Affairs and member of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, Proclamation and Catechesis.

In addition, since 2019 he has been a member of the College for the Examination of Appeals at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and since 2021 a Member of the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. In 2019, the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life appointed him Pontifical Commissioner of the Compagnia di Sant’Orsola - Istituto Secolare di Sant’Angela Mericidi Siena.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Saint Paul in Alberta, Canada, presented by Bishop Paul Terrio.

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Gary Anthony Franken, until now vicar general of the archdiocese of Vancouver, as bishop of the diocese of Saint Paul in Alberta, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Gary Anthony Franken, vicar general of the archdiocese of Vancouver, was born on 25 September 1962 in Vancouver. At the age of 19 he entered Saint Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario. On 13 May 1989 he was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Vancouver. After six years as parish vicar, he continued his studies in Rome at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, where he was awarded a licentiate in theology in 1997. He subsequently received a diploma in spirituality from the same university.

After returning to the diocese, for two years he led vocational pastoral care before becoming parish priest of the Saint Francis de Sales parish in Burnaby in 1998, and then of the Immaculate Conception parish in Delta (2003-2010), and the Saint Anthony parish in West Vancouver (2011-2022). In 2011 he was appointed as episcopal vicar for priestly life and then, in 2015, dean of the North Shore Deanery. Since 2016 he has served as vicar general of the archdiocese of Vancouver.

He is currently a member of the Archepiscopal Council, the archdiocesan Pastoral Council, the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of México, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Francisco Javier Acero Pérez, O.A.R., provincial vicar for Mexico and Costa Rica, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of México, Mexico, assigning him the titular see of Sufasar.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Francisco Javier Acero Pérez, O.A.R., was born on 29 November 1973 in Valladolid, Spain. Until his priestly ordination, he attended various institutes linked to the Augustinian Recollects in Spain.

He gave his religious vows on 24 October 1997 in Marcilla, and on 31 July 1999 he was ordained a priest in Valladolid, Spain. He was sent to Mexico where he has resided for twenty years. He obtained Mexican nationality, and was awarded a licentiate in psychology at the Universidad Continental.

He has held the following roles: deputy parish priest and then prior and parish priest of hospitals in Mexico City; prior of the Aspirantato S. Pio X and director of the Colegio Fray Luis de León, in Querétaro; founder and director of the Centro de Espiritualidad Agustiniana Recoleta (CEAR) and of the CEAR Network Television; he has promoted and accompanied various activities in the fields of vocational pastoral care and in communications, and has closely followed the Centro de acompañamiento, de recuperación y desarrollo integral (CARDI), instituted by his order.

In 2015 he was elected as provincial vicar of the Mexico-Costa Rica Vicariate based in Naucalpan, México State, an office to which he was re-elected in 2018.
