Farewell Ceremony at Nur-Sultan International Airport

At the end of the reading of the Final Declaration at the conclusion of the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the Holy Father Francis transferred by car to Nur-Sultan International Airport for the farewell ceremony from Kazakhstan.

On arrival, the Pope was received by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, His Excellency Mr. Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev, at the entrance to the VIP Lounge of the Presidential VIP Terminal where a brief private meeting took place.

After the Guard of Honour and the greeting of the respective delegations, the Pope boarded an ITA Airways A330 for his return journey to Italy.

The aircraft carrying the Holy Father departed from Nur-Sultan International Airport at 17.17 (13.17 in Rome), and is expected to arrive at Roma-Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport at 20.30.

Immediately after his departure by air from Nur-Sultan, the Holy Father Francis sent the following telegram to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, His Excellency Mr. Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev:

AS I DEPART FOR ROME AT THE CONCLUSION OF MY APOSTOLIC JOURNEY TO KAZAKHSTAN, I ONCE AGAIN EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE FOR THE HOSPITALITY EXTENDED TO ME DURING MY STAY IN YOUR COUNTRY, AND I RENEW THE ASSURANCE OF MY PRAYERS FOR YOUR EXCELLENCY AND ALL YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS.
