Election of auxiliary bishop of the archeparchy of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankars, India

The Holy Father has given his assent to the election, by the Synod of the major archepiscopal Syro-Malankara Church, of the Reverend Chorbishop Mathew Manakkarakavil as auxiliary bishop of the archeparchy of Trivandrum, assigning him the titular see of Canata.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Mathew Manakkarakavil was born on 10 November 1955, was formed at the Saint Aloysius Minor Seminary in Vadavathoor and was ordained a priest on 18 December 1982.

He continued his studies at various universities in India, and at the Institut Catholique de Paris, and in 2010 he was awarded a doctorate in literature from the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. He was served as lecturer and dean of the Mar Ivanios College, as well as parish priest in various parishes and missions. Until now he has served as protosyncellus of the archeparchy of Trivandrum.

Besides Malayalam and English, he speaks French, Tamil, German and Hindi.

 

Election of auxiliary bishop of the Syro-Malankara major archepiscopal Curia, India

The Holy Father has given his assent to the election, by the Synod of the major archepiscopal Syro-Malankara Church, of the Reverend Fr. Antony Kakkanatt as bishop of the archepiscopal Curia, assigning him the titular see of Barcuso.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Antony Kakkanatt was born on 18 July 1961 in Kadamankulam. He carried out his institutional studies at Saint Thomas Apostolic Seminary, and was ordained a priest on 30 December 1987 for the archeparchy of Tiruvalla.

After obtaining a doctorate in catechetics from the Pontifical Salesian University, he held various offices in the archeparchy of Tiruvalla: parish priest, professor in the major seminary, director of the Santhinkilayam Department for Catechesis, vice director of the Saint Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute, director of the Sameeksha Centre for the Formation of Catechists, chancellor, and protosyncellus.

Since 2012 he has served as secretary of the Commission for Catechesis and of the Suvisesha Sangam evangelization programme of the Syro-Malankara Synod.

He knows Malayalam, English, German and Italian.
