Appointment of bishop of Cerignola-Ascoli Satriano, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fabio Ciollaro, until now vicar general of the archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni and parish priest of San Vito Martire, as bishop of Cerignola-Ascoli Satriano.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Fabio Ciollaro was born on 21 September 1961 in San Vito dei Normanni, in the province of Brindisi, in the archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni.

He was ordained a priest on 14 June 1986 for the same archdiocese. He attended the regional seminary of Molfetta and was awarded a doctorate in theology from the Teresianum in Rome.

He has been vicar general of the archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni since 8 September 2014.

Since 1996 he has served as parish priest in Guagnano, San Vito dei Normanni, Brindisi and ad nutum Episcopi in San Pancrazio Salentino.

He has taught at the Regional High School Seminary of Taranto and was later rector of the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Ostuni. He has led a number of courses of spiritual exercises and retreats for clergy and in seminaries.

For twelve years he served as director of the School Office and the diocesan Administrative Office.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the Episcopal Council, the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council.

He has been a professor of religion and has taught spiritual theology at the Higher Institute of Religious Studies in Brindisi. He is the author of several publications.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Earl K. Fernandes, until now parish priest of the Saint Ignatius of Loyola parish in Cincinnati, as bishop of Columbus, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Earl K. Fernandes was born on 21 September 1972 in Toledo, Ohio, in the diocese of the same name. He attended the University of Toledo, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary of the West in Cincinnati, Ohio. He subsequently studied at the Alphonsianum Academy in Rome, where he was awarded a doctorate in moral theology (2004-2008).

He was ordained a priest on 18 May 2002 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Cincinnati.

After his ordination, he held the following offices: parish vicar of the Holy Angels parish (2002-2004), dean and assistant professor of moral theology at the Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary of the West (2008-2016) and administrator of the Sacred Heart parish in Cincinnati (2014-2016), collaborate at the apostolic nunciature of the United States in Washington D.C. (2016-2019) and, from 2019 to date, parish priest of the Saint Ignatius of Loyola parish in Cincinnati. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.
