Appointment of bishop of Castellaneta, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Sabino Iannuzzi, O.F.M., of the Minorite Province of Santa Maria delle Grazie, episcopal vicar for consecrated life of the archdiocese of Benevento and rector of the Basilica of Santi Annunziata e Antonio, Vitulana, as bishop of Castellaneta, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Sabino Iannuzzi, O.F.M., was born on 24 August 1969 in Avellino, in the province and archdiocese of the same name.

After obtaining a diploma as an accountant and business expert in Avellino, he was admitted as a postulant in the Province of the Friars Minor of Sannio and Irpinia. On 23 September 1990 he began his novitiate, the following year he made his first religious profession, and on 22 October 1994 his solemn profession. He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1995.

In 2006 he obtained a master’s degree in management, administration and monitoring of ccclesiastical institutions at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, and later attended the Italian Episcopal Conference’s advanced training course for animators of communication and culture. In 2008 he obtained a licentiate in sacred theology with a specialization in pastoral theology.

He has held the following positions: provincial minister of the Minorite Province of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Sannio-Irpinia (2007), then reconfirmed for a second term; national counsellor, promoter of vocations, secretary and national treasurer within the Conference of Provincial Ministers of the Order in Italy (COMPI), of which he was president (2013-2016), and president of the Union of Friars Minor of Europe (2015-2017).

At diocesan level he has served as teacher of Catholic religion in state schools and rector of the Santissimo Gesù Bambino di Praga diocesan shrine in Benevento. He is currently member of the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consultors and the College of Auditors of the accounts of the Diocesan Institute for the Support of the Clergy, editor-in-chief of the quarterly Voce Francescana of the O.F.M. province of Sanni-Irpinia, episcopal vicar for consecrated life of the archdiocese of Benevento and rector of the Basilica of Santi Annunziata e Antonio, Vitulana.
