Appointment of bishop of Teixeira de Freitas-Caravelas, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Teixeira de Freitas-Caravelas, Brazil, Rev. Fr. Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P., currently bursar of the “Nossa Senhora Aparecida” Delegation based in Porto Alegre.

H.E. Msgr. Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P.

H.E. Msgr. Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P., was born on 28 January 1965 in Feira de Santana, in the archdiocese of the same name, in the State of Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Porto Alegre. He then attended a course in psychology at the University of Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) in Porto Alegre.

He gave his religious vows on 1 January 1985 in the Congregation of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence (Don Calabria), and was ordained a priest on 17 December 1988.

Within his Congregation he has held the following offices: formator and superior of the Community of Farroupilha-RS (1989-1998); vice-provincial and master of novices at Porto Alegre (2002-2008); and provincial delegate for the “Nossa Senhora Aparecida” Delegation based in Porto Alegre (2008-2014). Since 2015 he has served as bursar for the same Delegation.

 

Appointment of bishop of Aire et Dax, France

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Nicolas Souchu as bishop of the diocese of Aire et Dax, France. Msgr. Souchu is currently auxiliary bishop of Rennes.

H.E. Msgr. Nicolas Souchu

H.E. Msgr. Nicolas Souchu was born on 25 July in Neuilly-sur-Seine, in the diocese of Nanterre. After his classical studies, he attended the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences of the University of Orléans, obtaining in 1980 the Maîtrise  in Economic and Social Administration, while following university formation courses for future priests (GFU). He then carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the major seminary of Orléans. In 1998 he obtained a licentiate in biblical and systematic theology from the Institut Catholique in Paris. He was ordained a priest on 1 June 1986 for the diocese of Orléans.

Since ordination he has held the following ministerial offices: deputy priest in Gien (1986-1992), parish priest in solidum of Orléans-Ouest; at the same member of the animating team of the interdiocesan major seminary of Orléans and from 1995, adjunct director of the Centre d’Etude et de Réflexion chrétienne de Orléans (1992-19999; parish priest of Saint-Marceau in Orléans and episcopal vicar for the city of Orléans (1999-2000); vicar general (2000-2008); secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Ordained Ministers and Laypersons in Ecclesial Mission of the French Episcopal Conference (2003-2008).

On 28 November he was appointed as titular bishop of Cataquas and auxiliary of Rennes. He received episcopal ordination on 18 January 2009. Within the French Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for Ordained Ministers and Laypersons in Ecclesial Mission.
