Following the earthquake that struck Mexico with extraordinary vehemence, causing (according to established but not yet definitive data) at least 250 victims, as well as extensive material damages, Pope Francis, through the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has decided to send a first contribution of 150 thousand dollars for the aid of the population in this emergency phase.

This sum, which will be divided, in collaboration with the apostolic nunciature, between the dioceses most affected by the disaster, will be used for aid works for those affected by the earthquake and is intended as an immediate expression of the sentiment of spiritual closeness and paternal encouragement towards the afflicted persons and territories, expressed by the Holy Father during the General Audience of 20 September 2017.

This contribution, which accompanies the prayer, addressed in particular to the Virgin of Guadalupe, in support of the beloved Mexican population, is part of the aid efforts that are being activated in all the Catholic Church and which involve, aside from various Episcopal Conferences, numerous charitable organisms.
