Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Peru

The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Peru His Excellency Msgr. Nicola Girasoli, titular archbishop of Egnazia Appula, currently apostolic nuncio in Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica, Grenada, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Santa Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Suriname, and apostolic delegate in the Antilles.

 

Appointment of secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development

The Pope has appointed as Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development the Rev. Fr. Bruno Marie Duffé, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Lyon, co-founder and director of the Human Rights Institute of the Catholic University of Lyon, and professor of social and healthcare ethics at the Léon Bérard Centre de lutte contre le cancer, Lyon.

Rev. Fr. Bruno Marie Duffé

The Rev. Fr. Bruno Marie Duffé was born in Lyon, France on 21 August 1951.

In June 1981 he was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Lyon and exercised the ministry of parish vicar and subsequently parish priest.

He then obtained a doctorate in philosophy of law and social ethics (1996).

From 1982 he served as lecturer in moral theology and the Social Doctrine of the Church at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Lyon and the Jesuit Centre of Baume les Aix; since 2005 he has served as professor of social and healthcare ethics at the Léon Bérard Centre de lutte contre le cancer, Lyon.

He is the co-founder and director of the Human Rights Institute of the Catholic University of Lyon (1985-2004), which has actively contributed to the creation of the UNESCO chair on minority rights; he is currently regional spiritual advisor for Christian entrepreneurs and leaders (EDC), national chaplain of the Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement (CCFD – Terre Solidare), member of the Council for Justice and Peace – France, and director of the Certificat Universitaire for health pastoral care at the Catholic University of Lyon, for the formation of hospital chaplains and heads of health pastoral care.

The author of publications on the theme of human rights, he has participated as an expert in the field in several international missions with the mandate of the United Nations High Commissioners OHCHR and for Refugees – HCR, and in collaboration with various NGOs, including Caritas, Terre des Hommes, Medicins Sans Frontiers. A native French speaker, he also knows English, Spanish and Italian.
