Following the visit of the Holy Father to the Island of Lesvos, in Greece, when he accompanied three families of refugees back to Rome, a second group of nine refugees, including two Christians, arrived in Rome yesterday.

The Vatican Gendarmeria, with the help of Interior Ministry of Greece, the Greek Asylum Service, and the Community of Sant’Egidio, accompanied the refugees from Athens to Rome on Thursday. The Community of Sant’Egidio will arrange for their housing, which will be paid for by the Vatican.

The refugees, six adults and three children, are all Syrian citizens who were in the Kara Tepe refugee camp. They had arrived in Lesvos from Turkey.

Dopo la visita del Santo Padre all’Isola di Lesvos in Grecia, quando aveva portato con sé a Roma tre famiglie di rifugiati, un secondo gruppo di nove rifugiati, inclusi due cristiani, è giunto ieri a Roma.

La Gendarmeria Vaticana, con la collaborazione del Ministro degli Interni di Grecia, il Greek Asylum Service, e la Comunità di Sant’Egidio, ha accompagnato i nove rifugiati da Atene a Roma ieri, giovedì 16 giugno. La Comunità di Sant’Egidio provvederà alla loro sistemazione, a spese del Vaticano.

I rifugiati, sei adulti e tre bambini, sono tutti cittadini siriani accolti nel campo profughi di Kara Tepe, sbarcati sull’isola di Lesbo provenienti dalla Turchia.
