Alle ore 13.00 di oggi, nell’Aula Giovanni Paolo II della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, P. Rifat Bader, Direttore del Catholic Center for Studies and Media di Amman (Giordania), tiene un Briefing per presentare la figura di due Beate che saranno canonizzate dal Santo Padre Francesco domenica prossima 17 maggio, in Piazza San Pietro: Suor Maria Alfonsina Danil Ghattas, Religiosa, Fondatrice della Congregazione delle Suore del Rosario di Gerusalemme e Maria di Gesù Crocifisso Baouardy, Monaca Professa dell’Ordine dei Carmelitani Scalzi.

Una nuova speranza per le figlie e i figli della Palestina e della Giordania e per il Medio Oriente
Papa Francesco, domenica prossima, proclamerà sante quattro religiose: una francese, un'italiana e due palestinesi: Suor Marie Alphonsine Danil Ghattas, da Gerusalemme, fondatrice della Congregazione delle Suore del Rosario; e Suor Maria di Gesù Crocifisso Baouardy, dalla città di Ibillin in Galilea, appartenente alla grande famiglia degli Haddad e fondatrice del Carmelo di Betlemme e di un altro Carmelo in India.
La messa pontificale presieduta da S.S. Papa Francesco sarà celebrata in Piazza San Pietro, alla presenza di Cardinali e Vescovi residenti a Roma e provenienti da tante parti del mondo. Fra essi ci saranno il Cardinale Angelo Amato, Prefetto della Congregazione delle Cause dei Santi; il Card. Leonardo Sandri, Prefetto della Congregazione per le Chiese Orientali; il Card. João Braz de Aviz, Prefetto della Congregazione per gli Istituti di vita consacrata e le Società di vita apostolica; e il Card. Jean-Louis Tauran, Presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Interreligioso.
Sarà presente anche il Presidente Palestinese, Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazin, che con la sua partecipazione alla liturgia per la canonizzazione dimostrerà anche che quell'evento riguarda e interessa tutti i palestinesi, cristiani e musulmani.
Parteciperà alla messa una delegazione di 2124 persone provenienti dalla Palestina, dalla Giordania e da Israele, guidata dal Patriarca Latino di Gerusalemme e Presidente dell'Assemblea degli Ordinari Cattolici della Terra Santa, S.B. Patriarca Fouad Twal. Saranno inoltre presenti S.E. l’Arcivescovo Georges Baq'ouni, Arcivescovo di Akka e di tutta la Galilea per i Greci Cattolici Melkiti, e l'Arcivescovo Mousa l-Hajj, Arcivescovo di Haifa dei Maroniti, con altri vescovi della Giordania, Palestina, Libano, Iraq, Marocco, Tunisi, Egitto, Libia e Cipro, e un gran numero di sacerdoti e religiosi, religiose e fedeli delle varie Chiese.
Durante la Messa Pontificale, la Superiora generale delle Suore del Rosario, Inés al-Ya'qoub, porterà all'altare le reliquie della nuova Santa Marie Alphonsine Daniel Ghattas, accompagnata da Sr Praxède Sweidan e da parenti della Santa: Nawal Daniel Mizyid e Patrik Daniel.
Le reliquie della Santa Carmelitana Maria di Gesù Crocifisso Baouardy , la "piccola araba", saranno invece portate dalla Suora Carmelitana Anna Delmas accompagnata da Sr Ferial Qarra'a (da Betlemme), da Sr Jocelyne Vero e dal Signor Rezeq Baouardy, parente della Santa. Durante la messa, presenteranno le offerte il Signor Munir Elias, miracolato grazie all'intercessione di Santa Marie Alphonsine e accompagnato da sua madre, e la famiglia italiana che ha ottenuto la guarigione del suo bambino con l' intercessione di Santa Maria di Gesù Crocifisso.
Sr Mariam Baabich, della Congregazione del Rosario, farà una preghiera in arabo per la pace e la giustizia, durante le preghiere dei fedeli.
Il Patriarca Fouad Twal ha detto, all'indomani del suo arrivo a Roma: "Nel bel mezzo delle difficoltà che viviamo, la proclamazione di due sante della Palestina è un evento spirituale molto importante per gli abitanti della Terra Santa. Rappresentano una nuova luce per il nostro cammino. Si parla spesso di Terra Santa come di una terra devastata dalla violenza e dalle divisioni, con una conseguente distorsione della sua immagine. Sono proprio le due sante a restituire a questa terra il suo vero volto, mostrando che la santità è possibile anche nelle situazioni più difficili”.
Il Patriarca Latino di Gerusalemme ha affermato che la santificazione di due donne provenienti dal Medio Oriente, proprio nel bel mezzo di queste circostanze difficili, è un appello di Papa Francesco a pregare, dal momento che solo la preghiera può aiutare la nostra regione a liberarsi dalle sue calamità in modo miracoloso. Ed ha aggiunto: "Abbiamo adesso due nuove sante che sono un modello di perfezione per i cristiani come per i musulmani e gli ebrei. Tutte due si chiamano Maryam, nome comune alle tre religioni. Questo è un segno per il nostro tempo. Vuol dire che le tre religioni possono dialogare assieme senza discriminazione".
La Terra Santa ha ricevuto questa gioiosa notizia nel febbraio scorso. Oggi ringrazia Dio per la grazia ricevuta, che non è nuova in una terra già santa e santificata, dove Dio ha redento l'umanità. Perciò le Chiese della Terra Santa ringraziano S.S. Papa Francesco, il quale ricorda sempre: " il Medio Oriente senza cristiani non può essere Medio Oriente".
Guardiamo a questo grande evento che ricorre per la prima volta sin dal tempo degli Apostoli e dei cristiani dei primi secoli: questo evento è un messaggio ai cristiani del Medio Oriente, un conforto, una nuova speranza, particolarmente per i fedeli della diocesi e della Palestina della Giordania, per i paesi del Medio Oriente, per gli emigrati allontanati dai loro paesi di origine e per tutti i perseguitati nei tempi moderni, i cui persecutori "pensano di offrire un sacrificio gradito a Dio", come aveva preannunciato Gesù.
Santa Maria di Gesù Crocifisso ha sofferto anche lei a causa dell'estremismo e di un’aggressione alla sua persona, poiché aveva rifiutato di cambiare la sua religione. Ed ecco che lei oggi intercede per ogni persona che viene uccisa per la sua fede; ci richiama con forza a rispettare le differenze di religione, di razza, e a considerare ogni uomo come creatura di Dio, creata a sua immagine e somiglianza.
E Santa Maria Alphonsine ha potuto con l'appoggio delle autorità religiose fondare la prima Congregazione araba locale, che ha oggi una grande presenza nel mondo arabo: in Giordania, Palestina, Libano, emirati del Golfo, avvertita soprattutto nei campi dell'educazione religiosa e dell'insegnamento.
Quando parliamo della Congregazione religiosa fiorita nel secolo XIX e all'inizio del secolo XX, è facile notare come questa Congregazione ha avuto un ruolo decisivo nella promozione della donna araba nei campi della cultura, dell'educazione e dell'insegnamento. Chi studia la storia della Palestina e della Giordania, all'inizio del secolo XX, riscopre questo contributo delle Suore del Rosario nella società araba, un contributo che continua a essere offerto anche oggi, malgrado le difficoltà che si affrontano in questi giorni. Siamo circondati dalla guerra e dalla morte, e allora Dio ci manda donne sante per guidarci, con la loro luce e intercessione e con la speranza che ci portano.
Le due sante che Papa Francesco ci propone in questo anno della Vita Consacrata, proprio nel mese di Maggio consacrato alla venerazione di Maria Vergine, ci chiamano a pregare affinché Dio renda i cuori, le menti e le anime più miti, perché l'uomo ritorni a riconoscere Dio, ad adorarLo e ringraziarLo e a rispettare il suo prossimo. Questa proclamazione delle due sante è anche un appello a intensificare la nostra preghiera del Rosario nelle chiese, nelle famiglie e nelle parrocchie, affinché siano un vero sostegno alla pace giusta, vera e definitiva in Terra Santa e in tutto il Medio Oriente.
Alla vigilia della canonizzazione, qui a Roma, ci sarà un incontro di preghiera nella Basilica di Santa Sabina all'Aventino, alle 17:30, con la partecipazione dei membri della delegazione della Terra Santa.
Lunedì 18 maggio il Patriarca Twal presiederà la Messa di ringraziamento nella Basilica Papale di S. Maria Maggiore con i vescovi, i sacerdoti, i diaconi, I religiosi e religiose, i seminaristi e i fedeli. La messa sarà celebrata in lingua araba, con canti in arabo. Credo che si tratterà della prima messa patriarcale nella storia celebrata in arabo nella prima Basilica romana dedicata alla Theotokos.

New Hope for the sons and daughters of Palestine, Jordan and the Middle East
Pope Francis will announce next Sunday the canonization of four nuns. Two of them are Palestinians, namely Marie-Alphonsine, founder of Palestine's first congregation, the Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary of Jerusalem, and Mary of Jesus Crucified Baouardy, the founder of the Carmelite Convent in Bethlehem and India. One French and one Italian nuns are also being canonized.
The Pontifical Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican by His Holiness Pope Francis in the presence of cardinals and archbishops from the Vatican and around the world. In attendance will be Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints; Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches; Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life; and Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
The participants in the Mass include a delegation from Holy Land : Jordan , Palestine and Israel, consisting of 2,124 people led by His Beatitude Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, in his capacity as president of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land, together with the Archbishop of Acre for the Melkites Georges Bacouni, the Maronite Archbishop of Haifa and the Holy Land Moussa el-Hage, and bishops from Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Cyprus., They will be joined in fellowship by priests, religious men and women and faithful from various churches.
During the Mass, the Superior General of the Rosary Sisters Congregation, Mother Anyes Al-Ya'qoub will carry the relics of the new saint Alphonsine, accompanied by Sister Braxid Sweidan and relatives of the Jerusalemite saint Nawal Daniel Mzayyid and Patrick Daniel. The relics of St. Baouardy will be carried by Carmelite sisters Anna Diplomas, Ferial Qarra' and Jocelyn Ferro, together with the saint's relative Mr. Rizeq Baouardy. Furthermore, Emile Munir Elias and his mother will be at the Mass, knowing that he had been healed through the intercession of St. Alphonsine. An Italian family will also hold the relics of St. Baouardy as their son was healed through her intercession. Rosary Sister nun Mariam Ba'bish will also say a prayer in Arabic for peace and justice.
Upon departure for the Vatican, Patriarch Twal said: "The declaration of the sainthood of the two nuns from Palestine is a spiritual event of prime importance for the citizens of the Holy Land, amid the difficulties we are experiencing, as the two saints enlighten our path. As the Holy Land, wrecked by violence and dissent, has for sometimes had a tarnished image, our two saints emerge to restore its sanctity, reminding us that sanctity is possible even in the most difficult circumstances."
The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem said “the canonization of the two girls from the East during these dark times is an invitation from His Holiness Pope Francis to pray, knowing that only prayer can miraculously help save our faith in the midst of these times of trial.” He added, "Now, we have two new saints who represent a model of perfection for Christians, as well as for Muslims and Jews alike. They are both named Mary, and this name is widespread and commonly used among all three traditions. It is a sign of our modern time which suggests that we can talk about the three religions without any discrimination.''
Having received the joyful news last February, the Holy Land gives thanks to the Almighty God for the blessing of canonization, especially for the community of believers in the land the Lord Jesus blessed through His presence. The Churches of the Holy Land convey heartfelt gratitude and thanks to His Holiness Pope Francis, who always states that "the Middle East without Christians, is not the Middle East." (Apostolic Exhortation).
We view this grand event, which takes place for the first time since the days of the apostles, as a message of solidarity and encouragement to the Christians of the Holy Land, especially to the Christians and parishioners in all other Middle East countries, and to who have been forcibly displaced and deported from their home countries, to all those who suffer from persecution, and whose persecutors sometimes think that by " killing they are offering a sacrifice to God", as Jesus himself warned.
The new saint, Mary of Jesus Crucified, was during her life subjected to acts of extremism and an attempt on her life in an attempt to force her to change her religion. She now intercedes for those who are being killed because of their religion and of their religious affiliation. Her life and intercession are a cry urging respect for religious and ethnic differences as well as acknowledging human beings as creatures who are made in the image and likeness of God.
The new saint Marie - Alphonsine succeeded in gaining the support of the religious authorities to set up the first local Arab religious congregation, and placing the Arab world on the map in the fields of education and religious teaching. Furthermore, the rosary schools affiliated with this Arab religious congregation have a prominent and influential presence in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, the Gulf states and Rome. We realize that during the late 19th and early 20th century this religious congregation contributed to giving increasing the role of Arab in culture, social awareness, spiritual guidance, and education of generations of both men and women. Illiteracy has been eliminated in many parts of the Middle East as a direct result of the active contributions of nuns and church congregations to literacy education.
The two saintly nuns, whose canonization coincides with the Church celebrations of the year of consecrated life and the blessed Marian Month of May, pray that the Lord would bring peace and calmness to our hearts and minds, and that we will return to worshipping the Almighty God--Who alone is worthy of our worship and thankfulness. We view the consecration of the founder of the Rosary Sisters as an invitation to intensify the daily Rosary prayers in churches, houses, parish groups to bring peace, love and mutual respect among all the people of the Middle East.
The vigil of the canonization will be a vigil of prayer at 17h30 in the Basilica of la Saint-Sabine, Rome.
On Monday 18th, H.B. patriarch Twal will preside over the mass of Thanksgiving at St Mary Maggiore in Rome, and the mass and songs will be in Arabic for the members of delegation coming from Holy Land.

يعلن البابا فرنسيس، الأحد المقبل، أربعة راهبات قديسات، منهنّ فلسطينيتان هما الراهبة ماري ألفونسين غطّاس، مؤسسة جمعية راهبات الوردية، من القدس، والراهبة مريم ليسوع المصلوب بواردي، من آل حداد، في الجليل، مؤسسة دير راهبات الكرمل في بيت لحم ودير آخر في الهند، إضافة إلى راهبة فرنسية وأخرى إيطالية.
أن "القداس الاحتفالي سيقام في ساحة القديس بطرس بالفاتيكان، حيث يترأسه قداسة البابا فرنسيس، بحضور جمع من الكرادلة والأساقفة في الفاتيكان والعالم، أبرزهم رئيس مجمع دعاوى القديسيين الكاردينال أنجلو أماتو، ورئيس مجمع الكنائس الشرقية الكاردينال ليوناردو ساندري، والكاردينال جواو براز دي أفيز، رئيس مجمع معاهد الحياة المكرسة وجمعيات الحياة الرسولية، ورئيس المجلس البابوي للحوار بين الأديان الكاردينال جان لويس توران". وعلى رأس الوفد الفلسطيني يحضر الرئيس محمود عباس أبو مازن مؤكدا بذلك المعنى الشامل للحدث، لجميع سكان فلسطين, مسلمين ومسيحيين.
يشارك في القداس وفد مكوّن من 2124 مشاركاً ومشاركة من الارض المقدسة : من فلسطين والاردن واسرائيل، يرأسه غبطة البطريرك فؤاد الطوال، بطريرك القدس للاتين، بصفته رئيساً لمجلس رؤساء الكنائس الكاثوليكية في الأرض المقدسة، إضافة إلى رئيس أساقفة عكا للروم الملكيين جورج بقعوني، ورئيس أساقفة حيفا للموارنة موسى الحاج، وأساقفة من الأردن، وفلسطين، ولبنان، والعراق، والمغرب، وتونس، ومصر، وليبيا وقبرص، إضافة إلى حشد كبير من كهنة ورهبان وراهبات ومؤمنين من مختلف الكنائس.
وخلال القداس ستقوم الرئيسة العامة لرهبانية الوردية الأم إنييس اليعقوب بحمل ذخائر القديسة الجديدة ماري ألفونسين دانيال غطاس، يرافقها كل من الأخت براكسيد سويدان، ومن أقرباء القديسة المقدسية نوال دانيال مزيد وباتريك دانيال. فيما ستقوم بحمل ذخائر القديسة بواردي كل من الراهبات آنا دبلماس وفريال قراعة (من بيت لحم) وجوسلين فيرو من راهبات الكرمل، والسيد رزق بواردي، من أقرباء القديسة الجليلية. كما سيشارك في تقادم القداس إميل منير الياس، الذي نال الشفاء بشفاعة القديسة ألفونسين، إضافة إلى والدته، فيما ستقوم بحمل التقادم أيضًا العائلة الإيطالية التي نال طفلها الشفاء بشفاعتها. كما ستقوم الراهبة مريم البعبيش، من رهبنة الوردية، بتلاوة طلبة باللغة العربية مصلية من أجل السلام والعدالة.
وقال البطريرك فؤاد الطوال، غداة انتقاله إلى الفاتيكان، إن "إعلان قداسة قديستين من فلسطين هو حدث روحي في غاية الأهمية بالنسبة إلى سكان الأرض المقدسة، وفي خضم الصعوبات التي نمر بها، فالقديستان الجديدتان تشكلان نوراً لدربنا. وإذا ظهر في بعض الأوقات أن الأرض المقدسة، التي يمزقها العنف والانشقاق، تبدو وقد تشوهت صورتها، فإن قديستينا تأتيان لإعادة قدسيتها. فالقداسة ممكنة حتى في الظروف الصعبه للغاية".
وأكد بطريرك القدس للاتين "أن إعلان تقديس امرأتين من نساء الشرق في هذه الظروف القاهرة هي دعوة من قداسة البابا فرنسيس للصلاة، التي لوحدها يمكن أن تساعد منطقتنا للنهوض من هذه المحنة بشكل عجائبي"، وأضاف "لدينا الآن قديستان جديدتان تمثلان نموذجاً للكمال للمسيحيين، وكذلك للمسلمين واليهود على حد سواء، فكلتاهما تُدعيان مريم، وهذا الاسم منتشر ومشترك بين التقاليد الثلاثة وهو علامة لعصرنا الحديث، تشير إلى أنه يمكنهما الحديث مع الديانات الثلاث بدون تمييز".
انّ الارض المقدسة ، وقد علمت بهذا الخبر المفرح منذ شباط الماضي، لترفع الشكر لله تعالى على نعمة القداسة ، وهي ليست بجديدة ، على الارض التي قدسها الرب وفدى الانسان فيها ، وكذلك فانّ الكنائس في الارض المقدسة ، تقدم الشكر الجزيل الى قداسة البابا فرنسيس ، الذي يذكر دائما بان "الشرق الاوسط بدون مسيحيين ، ليس الشرق الاوسط" .
واننا لننظر الى هذا الحدث الكبير ، والذي يجري للمرة الاولى ، منذ عهد الرسل، وبعد القرون المسيحية الأولى، بأنه رسالة تعزية وتشجيع الى المسيحيين في الشرق الاوسط، وبالاخص الى المسيحيين وابناء الابرشية في فلسطين والاردن ، وسائر بلدان الشرق الاوسط، والى المهجرين والمبعدين عنوة عن أوطانهم، والى جميع من يعانون الاضطهاد بالعصر الحديث ، والذين "يظن من يقتلهم أحيانا بانه يقدم قربانا لله"، كما سبق وأنبأ السيد المسح.
ان القديسة الجديدة مريم ليسوع المصلوب ، قد تعرضت هي بدورها الى اعمال التطرف ومحاولة القتل ، لتغيير ديانتها، وهي اليوم تتشفع للانسان الذي يُقتَل بسبب دينه وانتمائه الديني، وهي توجه دعوة صارخة الى احترام الاختلاف الديني والعرقي واعتبار الانسان انسانا مخلوقا على صورة الله ومثاله .
أما القديسة الجديدة ماري الفونسين ، فاستطاعت بدعم من السلطات الدينية آنذاك تأسيس أول رهبنة عربية محلية، لها حضور كبير في العالم العربي، وبالأخص في مجالات تعليم الديانة والتربية والتعليم، ولها في الأردن وفلسطين ولبنان ودول الخليج وروما حضور بارز ومؤثر في المدارس الوردية التابعة للرهبنة العربية. وعندما نتحدث عن الرهبنة في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وبداية العشرين، نرى أنها أسهمت في اعطاء المرأة العربية دوراً بارزاً في التثقيف والتوعية والتوجيه وتعليم الأجيال. ومن يدرس تاريخ فلسطين والأردن في بداية القرن العشرين، يعرف أن الكنائس بشكل عام والراهبات، وراهبات الوردية بصورة خاصة في الأردن، أسهمت بصورة فعالة في تطوير المرأة وفرض مكانتها في المجتمع العربي الحديث. فقد أسهمت في تثبيت الإيمان وحياة الروح في بلداننا، وما زالت، بالرغم من الصعاب التي تواجهنا في هذه الأيام. نحاط بالحرب والموت، ويحيطنا الله بالقداسة ونورها وشفاعتها والرجاء الذي تحمله إلى جميعنا.
ان الراهبتين القديستين ، والتي يعلن البابا فرنسيس قداستهما في غمرة احتفالات الكنيسة بسنة التكريس ، وفي الشهر المريمي المبارك ، تدعواننا الى الصلاة ، لكي يليّن الرب النفوس والعقول والقلوب ، ويعود الانسان الى عبادة الله تعالى، المعبود الاول والمشكور الاول في الحياة ، واننا لنرى في اعلان قداسة مؤسسة راهبات الوردية ، دعوة الى تكثيف صلاة المسبحة الوردية اليومية ، في الكنائس والعائلات ، والجماعات الرعوية ، لتكون داعما لجلب السلام والمحبة والاحترام المتبادل، بين جميع سكان الشرق الاوسط.
