BEATIFICATION OF THE VENERABLE JOHN PAUL II (PARVIS OF THE VATICAN BASILICA - 1ST MAY 2011, 10.00 A.M.) - LOGISTICAL INFORMATION On the occasion of the Beatification of John Paul II - and the related events in the days before and after the ceremony (General Audiences on 27th April and 4th May, Vigil at the Circus Maximus, Holy Mass for the Beatification on St Peter’s Square and Holy Mass of Thanksgiving) - a joint accreditation procedure shall be implemented by the Holy See Press Office and the Pontifical Council of Social Communications.
The information provided below is addressed to all journalists and media operators interested in following the above-mentioned events.
Journalists and media operators who have already furthered their request (even partially) following ordinary temporary accreditation procedures are not held to repeat the procedure according to the indications at point 1 and may proceed to point 2.
Journalists and media operators already regularly accredited at the Holy See Press Office or at the Pontifical Council of Social Communications (PERMANENT accreditation) are not held to follow the procedures described in points 1 and 2 and may proceed to point 3.
Information regarding the state of one’s request and particular accreditation conditions can be obtained by contacting mediaaccreditation@pressva.va.
1. Applying for accreditation
1.1. The accreditation application form and indications concerning the necessary documentation is available online in the accreditation section of the Vatican website:

1.2. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 20th April 2011, 12.00 p.m.
1.3. Applications deemed incomplete or presented after the deadline (point 1.2) will not be accepted.
2. Distribution of press credentials
2.1. Press credentials for journalists and media operators will be distributed at the Temporary Accreditation Office in Via della Conciliazione, 5 (cf. map below).
2.2. Journalists and media operators who have completed the accreditation application procedure can pick up their press credentials during the following hours:
- on 18 and 20 April 2011, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.
- on 27, 28 and 29 April 2011, from 09.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m.
- on 30 April 2011, from 09.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.
2.3. Journalists and media operators unable to pick up their press credentials personally shall delegate a representative (in writing), who must submit copy of his or her ID document.
2.4. Since they may come in touch with confidential or embargoed documents, all accredited journalists and media operators shall sign a statement of observance of embargo rules, in person or delegating a representative (as per point 2.3).
3. Access
3.1. Accreditation shall be valid from 18/04/2011 (for those who intend to follow the Holy Week) and will cover the entire period 27/04-04/05/2011 (for the Beatification ceremony), including all events allowed and related to the Beatification of John Paul II (General Audiences on 27th April and 4th May, Vigil at the Circus Maximus, Holy Mass for the Beatification on St Peter’s Square and Holy Mass of Thanksgiving).
3.2. Due to the limited space available, from 26th April to 2nd May 2011 access to the Holy See Press Office will be limited exclusively to regularly accredited journalists and media operators (PERMANENT accreditation). All other journalists and media operators accredited for the Beatification will find place in the Press Service Centre (cf. point 4.1).
3.3. On 28-30/04/2011 stand-ups and video or photo shooting (no interviews, nor shooting with radiocameras) will be permitted on St Peter’s Square.
3.4. On 01/05/2011, before the Celebration, stand-ups and video or photo shooting (no interviews) will be permitted on St Peter’s Square until 9.00 a.m. At 9.15 a.m. all journalists and media operators shall reach the press stand on the terrace of the "Braccio di Carlo Magno" (cf. point 4.1).
3.5. On 01/05/2011, during the Celebration, video and photo shooting will be permitted throughout the ceremony only from the terrace of the "Braccio di Carlo Magno"; stand-ups will be permitted in specific areas set on the terrace.
In order not to disturb the rite, no interviews or stand-ups will be permitted on St Peter’s Square during the ceremony.
3.6. On 01/05/2011, after the Celebration, stand-ups and video or photo shooting (no interviews) will be permitted on St Peter’s Square.
3.7. No live video shooting is permitted with digital or analogical cameras equipped with radio or wireless systems within the entire area of St Peter’s Square, including the terrace of the "Braccio di Carlo Magno".

5. Media Center
5.1. A Media Center will be set up for the Beatification ceremony inside the Atrium of Hall Paul VI (cf. map below). The Media Center will be partially active during Easter (22-24/04/2011) for Mondovision services.

5.3. All journalists and media operators who are not regularly accredited at the Holy See Press Office (PERMANENT accreditation) or at the Pontifical Council of Social Communications and wish to access the Media Center are required to apply for accreditation according to the procedure described under point 1.
Upon picking up their press credentials, all accredited journalists and media operators who have completed booking procedures as specified above (point 5.2) will receive a specific access permit to the Media Center and platforms (cf. point 4.4).
5.4. Journalists and media operators regularly accredited at the Holy See Press Office or at the Pontifical Council of Social Communications who have completed booking procedures as specified above (point 5.2) can pick up their access permit to the Media Center and platforms at the Accreditation Office of the Holy See Press Office (from 18/04/2011, cf. point 4.1).

7. Other information
7.1. Please note that the Temporary Accreditation Office is not an information desk: all information concerning the events will be provided at the Press Service Centre and at the Holy See Press Office.
7.2. All journalists and media operators are reminded that in order to follow the Beatification Ceremony and related events they shall be required to dress in suitable attire.
