Senza entrare nella valutazione dell’estrema gravità della pubblicazione di una grande quantità di documenti riservati e confidenziali e delle sue possibili conseguenze, la Sala Stampa della Santa Sede osserva che una parte dei documenti resi pubblici recentemente da Wikileaks riguarda rapporti inviati al Dipartimento di Stato degli Stati Uniti d’America dall’Ambasciata degli Stati Uniti presso la Santa Sede.

Naturalmente tali rapporti riflettono le percezioni e le opinioni di coloro che li hanno redatti, e non possono essere considerati espressione della stessa Santa Sede né citazioni precise delle parole dei suoi Officiali. La loro attendibilità va quindi valutata con riserva e con molta prudenza, tenendo conto di tale circostanza.

Press release on the subject of the US Department of State documents published by Wikileaks.

Without venturing to evaluate the extreme seriousness of publishing such a large amount of secret and confidential material, and its possible consequences, the Holy See Press Office observes that part of the documents published recently by Wikileaks concerns reports sent to the U.S. State Department by the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See.

Naturally these reports reflect the perceptions and opinions of the people who wrote them and cannot be considered as expressions of the Holy See itself, nor as exact quotations of the words of its officials. Their reliability must, then, be evaluated carefully and with great prudence, bearing this circumstance in mind.
