PRESS RELEASE
ON 11 AND 12 OCTOBER, THE JUBILEE OF MARIAN SPIRITUALITY
WITH THE PRESENCE IN ROME OF THE ORIGINAL STATUE OF
OUR LADY OF FATIMA
(Vatican City, 10 October 2025) – On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality will be held in Rome, to be attended by over thirty thousand pilgrims, including rectors and workers in shrines, and members of movements, confraternities, and various Marian prayer groups. Around one hundred countries will be represented at the Jubilee, including numerous delegations from Italy, Poland, France, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.
For the two days of the Jubilee, the original statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be exceptionally present in Rome. The Jubilee event will begin on Saturday 11 October, with the Holy Mass presided over by the rector of the Shrine of Fatima, Fr. Carlos Cabecinhas, at 9.00 in the Church of Santa Maria in Traspontina, where from 8.30, the faithful will be able to venerate the effigy of the Virgin. The recitation of the Rosary will then take place at 12.00. In the afternoon, at 17.00, the statue will be carried in procession from Santa Maria in Traspontina towards Saint Peter’s Square. The effigy, in the first part of the procession up to Saint Peter’s Square, will be carried by members of the Saints Peter and Paul Association. Once the procession has made its entrance into the Square, the processional chariot will be escorted by the Pontifical Swiss Guards and the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps up to its arrival on the parvis of Saint Peter’s Basilica. The procession will cross the square in order to allow the faithful to venerate the statue, and will pass the site of the attack on Pope John Paul II. The moment will be accompanied with Marian hymns sung by the choir of the diocese of Rome.
Then, at 18.00, the Prayer Vigil will begin in Saint Peter’s Square, with the recitation of the Rosary, at the personal request of Pope Leo XIV, to ask for the gift of peace. At the beginning of the moment of prayer, the Holy Father, as a ritual devotional gesture, will offer the Golden Rose to Our Lady of Fatima and to the Shrine. The rose was created for the occasion by the company “Diego Serpone” of Naples. Each decade of the Rosary will also be accompanied by the reading of a passage from Chapter VIII of Lumen Gentium, the conciliar document that deals with the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the mystery of Christ and the Church, to mark the anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council on 11 October 1962. This will be followed by a moment of Eucharistic adoration to implore the gift of peace.
On Sunday 12 October, the pilgrims will participate in the Holy Mass in Saint Peter’s Square, at 10.30, presided over by Pope Leo XIV, with free entry for the celebration.
