The Holy Father has appointed His Excellency Msgr. Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, as His Special Envoy to the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of the renewal of the structures of the Latin-rite Church in Ukraine, which will take place at the National Sanctuary of the Mother of God of the Scapular in Berdychiv on 19 July 2026.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Puntarenas (Costa Rica), presented by H. E. Msgr. Oscar Gerardo Fernández Guillén.
The Holy Father has appointed as Bishop of Puntarenas (Costa Rica) the Reverend Elímar Gerardo Carvajal Durán, of the clergy of the Diocese of Alajuela (Costa Rica), until now Diocesan Vicar for Pastoral Ministry.
Curriculum vitae
H.E. Msgr. Elímar Gerardo Carvajal Durán was born on 6 May 1976 in Grecia, Diocese of Alajuela. After studying Philosophy and Theology at the National Seminary Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles in Costa Rica, he obtained a Licentiate in Ciencias del Matrimonio y de la Familia from the Pontificio Instituto Juan Pablo II para Estudios sobre el Matrimonio y la Familia in Valencia (Spain), and a Diploma in Planificación Pastoral Participativa from CEBITEPAL of CELAM.
He was ordained a priest on 1 November 2003 and was incardinated in the Diocese of Alajuela.
He has held the following positions: Vice-Parish Priest (2003–2005) and Parish Priest (2011–2019) of Nuestra Señora de La Merced in Grecia; Vice-Parish Priest of San Guzmán in Orotina (2006–2007); Parish Priest of the Sagrada Familia in Invu Las Cañas (2008–2011); until now, Diocesan Vicar for Pastoral Ministry (since 2022), Forane Vicar of the Vicaría Monseñor Monestel in Alajuela, and Vice-Parish Priest of the Vicaría Monseñor Monestel
