This morning, Monday, 11 May 2026, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in Audience the Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, His Excellency Mr. Kamil El-Tayeb Idris Abdelhafiz, who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, accompanied by Monsignor Mihăiţă Blaj, Undersecretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial talks at the Secretariat of State, the importance of relations between the Holy See and Sudan was emphasized, as was the significant contribution of the local Church to the good of the country. The discussion also addressed the severe crisis that has been plaguing war-torn Sudan for the last three years.

In this regard, the urgent need to achieve a ceasefire, provide assistance to the population and initiate a sincere dialogue among all parties of the Sudanese nation was reiterated, with the aim of ending the conflict and collectively establishing peace.
