Resignation and appointment of bishop of Urdaneta, Philippines
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Urdaneta, Philippines, presented by Bishop Jacinto A. Jose.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Nick Argel Vaquilar, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, until now rector of the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan, as bishop of the diocese of Urdaneta, Philippines.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Nick Argel Vaquilar was born on 3 May 1970 in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. He studied philosophy at San Pablo College Seminary in Baguio City, and theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City. He was awarded a licentiate in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, and a doctorate in biblical theology at the Loyola School of Theology in Quezon City.
He was ordained a priest on 5 May 1997 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral in Vigan City (1997-2000, 2004); lecturer, professor and resident tutor at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City (2000–2001, 2005–2009); rector of the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City (2009–2011, since 2015); parish priest of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino in Sinait (2013–2014); director of the Archdiocesan Biblical Apostolate (since 2018).
