Resignation and appointment of bishop of Castanhal, Brazil

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Castanhal, Brazil, presented by Bishop Carlo Verzeletti.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Manoel de Oliveira Soares Filho as bishop of Castanhal, Brazil, transferring him from the diocese of Palmeira dos Índios.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Manoel de Oliveira Soares Filho was born on 25 September 1965 in São Domingos do Capim, in the State of Pará. After studying philosophy at the São Pio X Seminary and theology at the Instituto de Pastoral Regional (IPAR) in Belém do Pará, he specialized in science of religion, sociology and urban development, public policy and spatial planning.

He was ordained a priest on 26 September 1993 and incardinated in the diocese of Bragança do Pará.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of Santa Luzia in Santa Luzia do Pará (1994–2001); diocesan pastoral care coordinator (1996–2001); parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Ourém (2001–2009); parish priest of Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Bragança do Pará (2009–2011); parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Irituia (2011–2018); parish priest of Nossa Senhora Aparecida (2018) in Dom Eliseu; member of the Presbyteral Council (2000–2018) and member of the College of Consultors (2016–2018).

On 19 December 2018, he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Palmeira dos Índios, in the State of Alagoas, and was ordained bishop on 24 February of the following year.

 

Appointment of bishop of Escuintla, Guatemala

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Ángel Antonio Recinos Lemus as bishop of the diocese of Escuintla, Guatemala, transferring him from the diocese of Zacapa y Santo Cristo de Esquipulas.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Ángel Antonio Recinos Lemus was born on 2 August 1963 in Azulco, in the metropolitan diocese of Jalapa. He studied philosophy and theology at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción National Major Seminary in Guatemala City.

He was ordained a priest on 3 December 1994 and incardinated in the metropolitan diocese of Jalapa.

After ordination, he first held the offices of director of Jalapa Minor Seminary (1994-1995), deputy parish priest of Quezeda, El Progresso Achuapa (1995-1996), and parish priest of San Luis Jilotepeque (1997-2000). He was awarded a licentiate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome and went on to serve as formator at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción National Major Seminary (2004-2009) and parish priest of Mataquescuintla (2009-2016).

On 22 February 2016 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Zacapa y Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, and received episcopal ordination the following 21 May.
