Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Haiti

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, until now apostolic nuncio in the Czech Republic, titular of Novica, as apostolic nuncio in Haiti.

 

Resignation and succession of metropolitan archbishop of New Orleans, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of New Orleans, United States of America, presented by Archbishop Gregory Michael Aymond.

He is succeeded by Archbishop James Francis Checchio, hitherto coadjutor archbishop of the same metropolitan see.

 

Appointment of bishop of Campeche, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Alberto González Juárez, until now bishop of Tuxtepec, as bishop of the diocese of Campeche, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Alberto González Juárez was born on 19 December 1967 in El Parral, in the archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez. After studying at the major seminary of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, he was awarded a licentiate in philosophy from the Universidad Pontificia de México.

He was ordained a priest on 8 December 1995 for the same archdiocese.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar and parish priest, episcopal vicar for the clergy and for consecrated life, superior of the preparatory course, lecturer in philosophy, and rector of the seminary of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

He was appointed bishop of the diocese of Tuxtepec on 6 June 2015, receiving episcopal consecration the following 22 July.

He is an alternate member of the Permanent Council of the Mexican Episcopal Conference.

 

Appointment of bishop of Atlacomulco, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Adolfo Miguel Castaño Fonseca, until now bishop of Azcapotzalco, as bishop of the diocese of Atlacomulco, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Adolfo Miguel Castaño Fonseca was born on 27 September 1962 in San Mateo Mozoquilpan, in the diocese of Toluca. After studying in the seminary of Toluca, he was awarded a licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Universidad Pontificia de México and a doctorate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1987.

He has held the following offices: professor at the Universidad Pontificia de México, prefect of studies in the seminary of Toluca.

He was appointed titular bishop of Vadesi and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of México on 22 June 2010, receiving episcopal consecration the following 30 July.

On 28 Setember 2019 he was appointed first bishop of the diocese of Azcapotzalco, at the moment of the division of the metropolitan archdiocese of México.

Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Episcopal Commission of Prophetic Pastoral Care.

 

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Martin Laliberté, P.M.E., as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, Canada, transferring him from the see of Trois-Rivières.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Martin Laliberté was born on 13 December 1964 in Charlesbourg, in the archdiocese of Québec. After giving his religious vows as a member of the Foreign Missions Society of the province of Québec, he was ordained a priest the following 28 October.

He has held the following offices: missionary in the Amazon region in Brazil, first assistant, vicar general, and superior general.

He was appointed titular bishop of Sertei and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Québec on 25 November 2019, receiving episcopal ordination the following 29 December.

On 14 March 2022 he was appointed bishop of Trois-Rivières.
