Appointment of bishop of Tampico, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Margarito Salazar Cárdenas, hitherto of Matehuala, as bishop of the diocese of Tampico, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Salazar Cárdenas was born on 22 February 1958 in Matamoros. He carried out his studies in the Seminary of Monterrey, and was ordained a priest on 12 June 1989; he was incardinated in the diocese of Matamoros-Reynosa.

He was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Universidad Pontificia de México.

He has held the following offices: formator, lecturer, vice rector and rector of the diocesan seminary; coordinator of the diocesan Commission for Vocational Pastoral Care; defender of the bond and diocesan bursar; parish priest and episcopal vicar.
