Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Westminster, England

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Westminster, England, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Gerard Nichols.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Charles Phillip Richard Moth, until now bishop of Arundel and Brighton, as metropolitan archbishop of Westminster, England.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Charles Phillip Richard Moth was born on 8 July 1958 in Chingola, Zambia. He carried out his primary and secondary school studies in Catholic schools in Kent. He received his priestly formation at Saint John’s Seminary in Wonersh, Surrey, and at the Université Saint-Paul in Ottawa, where he was awarded a licentiate in canon law.

He was ordained a priest on 3 July 1982 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Southwark.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest, judge of the Southwark Metropolitan Tribunal of First Instance; chaplain of the Medical Army Corps in Kennington; special secretary to the archbishop; master of liturgical celebrations; director of the Vocations Office and vice-chancellor; president of the Southwark Metropolitan Tribunal of Second Instance.

In 2001 he was appointed vicar general of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Southwark and Prelate of Honour; in 2003, parish administrator of Holy Cross, Plumstead; and in 2006, parish administrator of Saint Joseph’s, Saint Mary’s, Cray.

On 25 July 2009 he was appointed bishop military ordinary for Great Britain, receiving episcopal consecration the following 29 September. On 21 March 2015 he was transferred to the see of Arundel and Brighton.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Palm Beach, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Palm Beach, Florida, United States of America, presented by Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Manuel de Jesus Rodriguez, of the clergy of the diocese of Brooklyn, New York, until now parish priest of Our Lady of Sorrows in Corona, as bishop of Palm Beach, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Manuel de Jesus Rodriguez was born on 15 January 1974 in the Dominican Republic. He entered the Salesians in 1993, giving his solemn vows in 2002. He attended the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a licentiate in law. He was awarded a licentiate in education from the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo and a master’s degree from the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome. He was subsequently awarded a master’s degree in education from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo and a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in Washington.

He was ordained a priest on 3 July 2004 and incardinated in the diocese of Brooklyn on 29 June 2012.

He has held the following offices: director of the Colegio Don Bosco (2004-2008) and of the Colegio de Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (2008-2009); parish vicar of Saint Michael in Brooklyn (2009-2011); administrator (2011-2012) and parish priest (2012-2014) of Saints Peter and Paul in Brooklyn; parish priest of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Queens (2014-2020) and Our Lady of Sorrows (since 2020), and defender of the bond (since 2017).

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Phoenix, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Peter Dai Bui, of the clergy of the diocese of Phoenix, until now vicar for the clergy, as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Phoenix, United States of America, assigning him the titular see of Ausafa.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Peter Dai Bui was born on 11 January 1970 in Phú Quốc, Vietnam. After transferring to New Orleans, Louisiana, he entered the minor seminary of the Legionaries of Christ, giving his vows in 1991 and receiving priestly ordination in December 2003. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, obtaining a licentiate in philosophy.

He has held the following offices: chaplain in a high school in Caracas, Venezuela (2003-2006) and parish vicar in the community entrusted to his Congregation in Phoenix. In 2009 he was incardinated in the diocese of Phoenix, where he held the role of parish vicar (2008-2011). He served at the Pontifical Council Cor Unum (2011-2016) and as parish priest (2017-2022).

Since 2022 he has held the office of vicar for the clergy.
