This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Leo XIV received in audience His Excellency Mr. Hyung Sik Shin, Ambassador of Korea to the Holy See, on the occasion of the presentation of his credential letters.

The following is a brief biography of the new Ambassador:

His Excellency Mr. Hyung Sik Shin was born on 6 August 1960, and is married with two children.

He graduated in sociology (1986) from Seoul National University. He was awarded a master’s degree (2008) and a doctorate (2011) in political science from Kyonggi University in Seoul.

He has held the following offices: Secretary General, Institute for Future Political Economy (2003); Director, Memorial Project Department, Korea Democracy Foundation (2008); Director, Education Project Department, Korea Democracy Foundation (2010); Director, Planning and Public Relations Department, Korea Democracy Foundation (2011); Director, Planning and Coordination Department, Korea Democracy Foundation (2013); Secretary General, Asia Democracy Network (2013); adjunct Professor, Department of International Area Studies, Pukyong National University (2015); Director, Research Institute, Korea Democracy Foundation (2016); and Director, Institute for Popular Sovereignty (2022).
