Appointment of bishop of Tumaco, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Franklin Misael Betancourt, of the diocese of Ipiales, until now formator at the Los Sagrados Corazones de Jesús y Maria Major Seminary of Pasto, as bishop of Tumaco, Colombia.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Franklin Misael Betancourt was born on 30 October 1967 in Guaitarilla, diocese of Ipiales. After studying philosophy and theology at the Los Sagrados Corazones de Jesús y Maria Major Seminary of Pasto and at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, he obtained a licentiate in moral theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Ipiales on 10 November 1996.

He has held the following offices: diocesan delegate for youth pastoral care (1997); parish priest of El Señor de los Milagros (1997-2000), Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes (2000-2003) and Niño Jesús (2004-2007); chaplain and parish priest of the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Las Lajas (2008-2016); director of the diocesan catechistic centre (2004-2007); episcopal vicar for consecrated life (2007-2016); diocesan bursar (2017-2019); member of the College of Consultors (2018-2020); and formator at the Seminario Mayor Binacional Nuestra Señora de la Paz in Tulcán, Ecuador (2019-2020).

Since 2020, he has served as formator at Los Sagrados Corazones de Jesús y María of the diocese of Pasto.
