The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the apostolic vicariate of Tripoli, Libya, presented by Bishop George Bugeja, O.F.M.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Abengourou, Côte d’Ivoire

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Abengourou, Côte d’Ivoire, presented by Bishop Boniface Ziri Gbaya.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Jean-Pierre Tanoh Tiémélé, until now Sunday vicar of Ascension de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, as bishop of Abengourou, Côte d’Ivoire.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Jean-Pierre Tanoh Tiémélé was born on 22 February 1969 in Treichville. After attending the Université Félix-Houhouët-Boigny in Abidjan, he was awarded a Master in Business Administration (MBA) in Option Entrepreneuriat et Dévéloppement Durable presso il Centre de Recherche et d’Action pour la Paix-Institut de la Dignité et des Droits Humains (CERAP/DDH) and a degree in engineering in Audit et Contrôl de gestion from the École supérieure de commerce Castaing in Abidjan. He subsequently completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Saint Cœur de Marie in Anyama and the Saint Paul VI Major Seminary of Abidjan, obtaining a licentiate in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 29 January 2011.

He has held the following offices: director general and administrator of the Centre Père Mathieu Ray de Koumassi (2011-2015), diocesan chaplain for Catholic Scouts (2013-2015), advisor of the Diocesan Council for Economic Affairs (2014-2015), secretary for Social Pastoral Care of the Episcopal Conference (2015-2016), national executive secretary of Caritas Côte d’Ivoire (2015-2024), and until now, Sunday vicar of the parish of Ascension de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

 

Appointment of bishop of San Pedro-en-Côte d’Ivoire, Côte d’Ivoire

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Youlo Alexis Touabli as bishop of the diocese of San Pedro-en-Côte d’Ivoire, Côte d’Ivoire, transferring him from the see of Agboville.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Youlo Alexis Touabli was born on 1 January 1961 in Bereblo Tabou.

He was ordained a priest on 8 August 1987 for the diocese of San Pedro-en-Côte d’Ivoire.

After ordination, he held the roles of teacher in the minor seminary of Gagnoa (1987-1990) and the minor seminary of Yopougon (1990-1992). He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy from the Institut Catholique de Paris (1992-1995), and went on to serve as vicar of the Cathedral of San Pedro (1995-1997) and professor in the major seminar of Daloa (1997-1999). After obtaining a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome (1999-2001), he held the offices of parish administrator of Saint André, Sassanra (2001-2002), parish priest of Saint Paul in San Pedro, and vicar general of the diocese (2003-2006), president of the Episcopal Conference of Côte d’Ivoire (2011-2017), and apostolic administrator of the diocese of Yamoussoukro (2018-2023).

On 14 October 2006 he was elected first bishop of Agboville, receiving episcopal ordination the following 16 December.

Since 5 May 2022, he has served as president of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA).
