Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Vitória da Conquista, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Vítor Agnaldo de Menezes of the diocese of Propriá as metropolitan archbishop of Vitória da Conquista, Brazil.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Vítor Agnaldo de Menezes was born on 15 June 1968 in Curaçá, in the diocese of Juazeiro, in the State of Bahia. He studied philosophy at the Institutum Sapientiae in Anápolis-GO and theology at the Universidade Católica do Salvador-BA.

He was ordained a priest on 18 April 1998 for the diocese of Jequié.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of the parishes of Sáo Roque in Lafaiete Coutinho-BA, Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Jequié-BA, the Cathedral of Santo Antônio in Jequié-BA and Nossa Senhora das Graças in Maracás-BA; rector of the major seminary; diocesan assessor for the missionary dimension; representative of the clergy; member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors; diocesan pastoral coordinator; coordinator of Missionary Childhood and secretary of the Nordeste 3 Region of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil; national secretary of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Brasília-DF; and collaborator of the metropolitan Cathedral.

Appointed bishop of Propriá on 25 October 2017, he received episcopal ordination on 6 January 2018.

 

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Grouard-McLennan, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Charles Duval, C.Ss.R., until now parish priest of Saint Joseph in Grande Prairie, as coadjutor archbishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Charles Duval, C.Ss.R., was born on 12 April 1964 in Gatineau, Hull, Québec. He entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer on 18 August 1985, and gave his solemn vows on 29 July 1989. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in theology from the Université Laval in Québec.

He was ordained a priest on 12 June 1993 for the Redemptorist Fathers.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Notre-Dame-du-Perpétuel Secours in Hamilton, Ontario (1993-1998), head of the Redemptorist Mission at Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures in Québec (1998-2000); pastoral animator of the Scholastic Council of the Centre-South District in Toronto (2000-2002); vocational director for the Redemptorists (2002-2008); parish priest of Marie-Étoile-de-la-Mer in the diocese of Bathurst in Canada (2008-2011); vice-rector of the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (2011-2015) and provincial superior of the province of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (2015-2019); and provincial superior of Canada (2019-2023). Since 2023 he has served as parish priest of Saint Joseph in Grande Prairie.
