Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Cincinnati, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cincinnati, United States of America, presented by Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Robert G. Casey, until now titular of Thuburbo maius and auxiliary of Chicago, United States of America, as metropolitan archbishop of Cincinnati, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Robert G. Casey was born on 23 September 1967 in Chicago. He entered Niles College Seminary at Loyola University, and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in English literature. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois.

He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of Chicago on 21 May 1994.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Ita in Chicao (1994-1999), associate director and then director of the Casa Jesus, a preparatory programme for candidates to the priesthood from Mexico and Central America, in Chicago (1998-2003), parish priest of Our Lady of Tepeyac (2003-2009), Saint Barbara (2009-2016) and of Saint Bede the Venerable (2015-2018) in Chicago.

He was appointed titular bishop of Thuburbo maius and auxiliary of Chicago on 3 July 2018, and received episcopal consecration the following 17 September.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Sioux City, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sioux City, United States of America, presented by Bishop Ralph Walker Nickless.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend John E. Keehner, Jr., of the clergy of the diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, until now parish priest of Our Lady of Peace in Ashtabula, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Geneva, Corpus Christi in Conneaut and Saint Andrew Bobola in Sheffield, as bishop of Sioux City, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. John E. Keehner, Jr., was born on 19 November 1965 in Youngstown, in the diocese of the same name. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, and a master’s degree in biblical studies from Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary of the West in Cincinnati. He was later awarded a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Youngstown on 12 June 1993.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Charles in Boardman, judge at the Tribunal, vice rector of the Cathedral, University pastoral director at Youngstown State University, defender of the bond, rector of the Cathedral, parish priest of Saint Columba, Saint Casmir and Saint Christine in Youngstown, and parish priest of Saint Paul in North Canton. Since 2024 he has served as parish priest of Our Lady of Peace in Ashtabula, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Geneva, Corpus Christi in Conneaut and Saint Andrew Bobola in Sheffield.

 

Appointment of bishop of Norwich, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Richard F. Reidy, of the diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts, until now vicar general of the same diocese, as bishop of Norwich, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Richard Francis Reidy was born on 30 May 1958 in Worcester, United States of America, in the diocese of the same name. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in political sciences from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, and the Juris Doctor at Boston College. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Mary Seminary in Baltimore, at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in Washington.

He was ordained a priest on 25 June 1994 for the diocese of Worcester.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Peter (1994-1995), rector of the Cathedral (1995-2008), parish priest of Saint Ann in North Oxford (2010-2013), and administrator of various parishes. Since 2010, he has served as defender of the bond, and since 2013, vicar general and moderator of the Curia.
