Holy See Press Office Communiqué, 11.10.2024

Signing of the Second Additional Protocol
to the Agreement between the Holy See and Burkina Faso
on the legal status of the Catholic Church in Burkina Faso

Today, 11 October 2024, the Second Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the Holy See and Burkina Faso on the legal status of the Catholic Church in Burkina Faso was signed in Ouagadougou, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso.

It was signed on behalf of the Holy See by Archbishop Michael F. Crotty, titular of Lindisfarne, apostolic nuncio, and for the State of Burkina Faso, by His Excellency Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and citizens of Burkina Faso abroad.

The Additional Protocol, which consists of a Preamble, seven articles and an appendix, further governs the procedure for issuing the certificate of legal personality in Burkina Faso law to public canonical juridical persons based in that nation, thus facilitating their evangelical mission in the promotion of the common good. It came into effect on the day of signing.
