Appointment of bishop prelate of Itacoatiara, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Edmilson Tadeu Canavarros dos Santos, S.D.B., as bishop prelate of the territorial prelature of Itacoatiara, Brazil, transferring him from the titular see of Feradi minus and from the office of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Manaus.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Edmilson Tadeu Canavarros dos Santos, S.D.B., was born on 3 December 1967 in Corumbá, in the diocese of the same name, in the State of Mato Grosso. He gave his religious vows on 31 January 1988 in the Society of Saint Francis de Sales (Salesians), and received priestly ordination on 7 December 1996.

He attended a course in philosophy at the Dom Bosco Catholic University in Campo Grande, and in theology at the Pio XI Theological Institute in São Paulo. He was awarded a degree in education from the Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba and participated in postgraduate courses in spiritual accompaniment, sexual ethics and Salesian spirituality.

He has held the following offices: associate master of novices, director of the Sã Vicente Institute in Campo Grande, director of the College and Salesian Faculty of Lins, director of the Pio XI Theological Institute in São Paulo, vice inspector of Salesians of Mato Grosso, director of the post-novitiate in Campo Grande, director of the religious community of Corumbá, pedagogical director of Santa Teresa College, and parish vicar of the Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora Shrine.

On 12 October 2016 he was appointed titular bishop of Feradi minus and auxiliary of Manaus, receiving episcopal ordination the following 12 December. Since 29 November 2023 he has served as apostolic administrator of the territorial prelature of Itacoatiara.
