Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Ghana

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Julien Kaboré, nunciature counsellor, as apostolic nuncio in Ghana, at the same time elevating him to the titular see of Milevi, with the dignity of archbishop.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Julien Kaboé was born in Zorgho, Burkina Faso, on 18 June 1968. He was ordained a priest on 8 July 1995, and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Koupéla.

He graduated in canon law.

He entered the Holy See diplomatic service on 1 July 2004, and has served in the Pontifical Representations in Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, Korea, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, the Philippines and Ireland.

He knows English, Italian and Spanish.

 

Resignation and succession of metropolitan archbishop of Mérida Badajoz, Spain

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz, Spain, presented by Archbishop Celso Morga Iruzubieta.

He is succeeded by Archbishop José Rodríguez Carballo, O.F.M., until now coadjutor archbishop of the same archdiocese.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop José Rodríguez Carballo, O.F.M., was born on 11 August 1953 in Lodoselo, diocese of Orense. He received priestly ordination on 28 June 1977.

He has served as minister general of the Order of Friars Minor (2003-2013), and was awarded a doctorate Honoris Causa by the University of the Americas, by Saint Bonaventure University, Colombia, and by the same University in the United States of America. He is also a member of the International Academy of Portuguese Culture.

On 6 April 2013 he was appointed secretary of the then-Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life, and at the same time elevated to the titular See of Belcastro, receiving episcopal consecration the following 18 May.

On 12 September 2003 he was transferred from the titular See of Belcastro and the office of secretary of the Dicastery for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life, and appointed coadjutor archbishop of the archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz, Spain.

 

Resignation and succession of bishop of Rarotonga, Cook Islands

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Rarotonga, Cook Islands, presented by Bishop Paul Patrick Donoghue, S.M.

He is succeeded by Bishop Reynaldo Bunyi Getalado, M.S.P., until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Engativá, Colombia

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Engativá, Colombia, presented by Bishop Francisco Antonio Nieto Súa.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Germán Medina Acosta, until now titular bishop of Aradi and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia, as bishop of Engativá, Colombia.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Germán Medina Acosta was born in Bogotá on 25 February 1958. He carried out his stueies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario Conciliar San José in Bogotá. He was awarded a licentiate in theology, a master’s degree in psychology and a postgraduate specialization in ethics and pedagogy from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and a doctorate in theology from the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 11 June 1983, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Bogotá.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora del Ave María; formator of the minor seminary; archdiocesan youth pastoral coordinator; chaplain of the Colegio del Rosario; chaplain of the National University; parish priest of Los Santos Ángeles Custodios; formator and rector of the Seminario Conciliar San José in Bogotá; parish priest of San Juan de Ávila; archdiocesan coordinator for the permanent formation of the clergy; vicar general; and, since 2017, episcopal vicar of the territorial zone of San Pedro.

On 11 June 2021 he was appointed titular bishop of Aradi and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Bogotà; he received episcopal consecration the following 14 August.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Bogotá, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Edwin Raúl Vanegas Cuervo, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia, until now episcopal vicar of the territorial zone of San José, as auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia, assigning him the titular see of Mazaca.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Edwin Raúl Vanegas Cuervo was born in Bogotá on 21 May 1975. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario Conciliar San José in Bogotá. He was awarded a licentiate in fundamental theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santa Maria Madre di Jesús (1999); parish priest of San Juan Neumann (2000-2004); member of the archdiocesan pastoral vocational team (2005-2006); formator (2009-2018) and rector (2019-2024) of the Seminario Conciliar San José in Bogotá; archdiocesan coordinator for ecumenical and interreligious dialogue (2013-2016); and animator for the permanent formation of the clergy (2018). Since 2024 he is episcopal vicar for the territorial zona of San José.
