Erection of the diocese of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, and appointment of first bishop

The Holy Father has erected the diocese of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, with territory taken from the diocese of Ruteng, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan Church of Ende.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Maksimus Regus, of the clergy of Ruteng, until now rector of the Catholic University of Saint Paul Ruteng, as first bishop of Labuan Bajo.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Maksimus Regus was born on 23 September 1973 in Woang, regency of Manggarai, in the current diocese of Ruteng. He attended the Pius XII Pontifical Roman Minor Seminary and carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Saint Petrus-Ritapiret Pontifical Major Seminary in the diocese of Maumere.

He was ordained a priest on 10 August 2001.

After ordination, he first served as parish vicar of Christ the King (2001-2007), chair of the diocesan Commission for youth pastoral care, and member of the diocesan Commission for interreligious dialogue (2002-2007). He went on to study at the Faculty of Socio-Political Sciences of the Universitas Indonesia, Depok (2007), social sciences at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam and ad Doctoratum studies at the Universiteit van Tilburg, Netherlands (2011-2017). Since 2018, he has served as lecturer at the Catholic University of Saint Paul in Ruteng, and dean of the Faculty of Educational and Formative Sciences (2019-2023), and since 2020, coordinator of diocesan priests of Ruteng.

The territory of the diocese of Ruteng, after dismemberment, is formed of the civil territories of the Manggarai and East Manggarai Regencies. The territory of the new diocese of Labuan Bajo is formed of the civil territory of the West Manggarai Regency.

Appointment of bishop of Roermond, Netherlands

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Cornelis Franciscus Maria van den Hout as bishop of Roermond, Netherlands, transferring him from the diocese of Groningen-Leeuwarden.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Cornelis F.M. van den Hout was born on 11 November 1964 in Tilburg.

He attended the High School of Agriculture in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and entered the Sint-Janscentrum Major Seminary of the diocese of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where he carried out his studies in philosophy and theology.

He was ordained a priest on 5 June 1993, and incardinated in the diocese of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

He was awarded a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1997) and went on to serve as parish administrator in Tilburg, parish priest of Drunen-Elshout, teacher at the Sint-Janscentrum Major Seminary and the major seminary of Rolduc, diocese of Roermond, and at the Bovendonk Centre, diocese of Breda (since 1998). He held the offices of dean of the deanery of Heusden-Waalwijk-Zaltbommel and parish priest of the pastoral unit of Bommelerwaard (since 2009). In 2009 he was awarded a doctorate in theology from the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen.

In 2012, maintaining the office of parish priest, he was appointed vicar general.

On 1 April 2017 he was appointed bishop of Groningen-Leeuwarden, receiving episcopal consecration the following 3 June.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Antequera, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Luis Alfonso Tut Tun, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Yucatán, until now parish priest of Santa Inés in Akil, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Antequera, Mexico, assigning him the titular see of Arba.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Luis Alfonso Tut Tun was born on 22 June 1978 in Acanceh, archdiocese of Yucatán. After attending the San Ildefonso de Toledo y Nuestra Señora del Rosario Major Seminary of the archdiocese of Yucatán, he was awarded a licentiate in sacramental dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 31 July 2006, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Yucatán.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santo Niño de Atocha, teacher at the seminary of the archdiocese of Yucatán, chaplain of the Institute of the Daughters of Saint Joseph, official of the Dicastery for Bishops, and, to date, parish priest of Santa Inés.
