Appointment of auxiliary bishops of the Patriarchate of Lisboa, Portugal
The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the Patriarchate of Lisboa, Portugal: the Reverend Nuno Isidro Nunes Cordeiro, of the clergy of the same Patriarchate, until now vicar general, assigning him the titular see of Sebarga; and the Reverend Alexandre Coutinho Lopes de Brito Palma, of the clergy of the same Patriarchate, until now prefect of studies of the Cristo Rei dos Olivais Major Seminary, assigning him the titular see of Tepelta.
Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Nuno Isidro Nunes Cordeiro
Msgr. Nuno Isidro Nunes Cordeiro was born on 8 September 1964 in União das Freguesias de A-dos-Cunhados e Maceira, in the municipality of Torres Vedras, Lisboa.
He carried out his theological studies at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, and his studies in spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 1 July 1990, and incardinated in the Patriarchate of Lisboa.
He has held the following offices: parish priest of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, Vila Verde dos Francos, of Nossa Senhora da Luz, Carvoeira, and of São Domingos, São Domingos de Carmões (1990-1996); parish vicar of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, Olhalvo, of Santa Quitéria, Meca, of Nossa Senhora das Virtudes, Ventosa, of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, Aldeia Galega de Merceana, of Santa Maria Madalena, Aldeia Gavinha, and of São Miguel, Palhacana; adjunct vicar forane of the Vicariate of Torres Vedras (1993-1996); spiritual director of the São José de Caparide Seminary (1998-1999 and 2001-2017), of the Nossa Senhora da Graça de Penafirme Seminary (1999-2001) and the Cristo Rei dos Olivais Major Seminary (since 2017); director of the Department of Culture of the Patriarchate (2012-2018); since 2011, member of the Chapter of Canons of the Cathedral and the Presbyteral Council, since 2001, spiritual assistant of the Auxiliares do Apostolado. To date he has served as vicar general.
Curriculum vitae of Alexandre Coutinho Lopes de Brito Palma
Msgr. Alexandre Coutinho Lopes de Brito Palma was born on 11 August 1978 in the Freguesia de São Jorge de Arroios, in the municipality of Lisbon, Lisboa.
He was awarded a bachelor’s degree and a licentiate in theology from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon and a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 2 July 2006, and incardinated in the Patriarchate of Lisboa.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, Linda-a-Velha, in the municipality of Oeiras, district of Lisboa (2006-2008); since 2012, collaborator of the Oratório de Nossa Senhora das Amoreiras, Lisboa; deputy director and associate professor in the Faculty of Theology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa; member of the editorial board of Communio (International Catholic Journal), member of the European Society for Catholic Theology; member of the Chapter of Canons of the Cathedral and the Presbyteral Council.
Since 2012 he has served as prefect of studies of the Cristo Rei dos Olivais Major Seminary of Lisboa and, since last May, he is president of the Jornada Mundial da Junventude Lisboa 2023 Foundation.
