Resignation and appointment of bishop of Palmira, Colombia

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Palmira, Colombia, presented by Bishop Edgar de Jesús García Gil.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Rodrigo Gallego Trujillo, of the clergy of the diocese of Buga, Colombia, until now vicar general and parish priest of the Cathedral of Buga.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Rodrigo Gallego Trujillo was born on 13 March 1974 in Seville. He carried out his studied in philosophy and theology at the Juan Pablo II Major Seminary in the diocese of Armenia.

He was ordained a priest on 5 December 1998.

He was awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a doctorate in theology from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín.

He has held the following offices: formator (1998-2000), teacher (2004-2009) and rector (2009-2018) in the Los Doce Apóstoles Major Seminary of the diocese of Buga, parish vicar of the Cathedral (2000-2002), and episcopal vicar for the economy (2018-2023). Since 2019, he has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of Buga, and since 2023, vicar general.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Port-au-Prince, Haiti

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of Port-au-Prince, Haiti: the Reverend Sander Louis-Jean, of the clergy of Port-au-Prince, until now parish priest of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, assigning him the titular see of Privata, and the Reverend Fr. Wismick Jean-Charles, S.M.M., until now chair of the International Commission for the Protection of Minors of the Society of Mary, assigning him the titular see of Lestrona.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Sander Louis-Jean

Msgr. Sander Louis-Jean was born on 17 October 1967 in Jérémie, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the Notre-Dame d’Haiti Major Seminary, continuing his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology, and was ordained a priest on 17 November 1996, and incardinated in the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.

After ordination, he first held the roles of parish vicar (1997-1999) and parish priest of Saint-Pierre in Pétion-Ville (2007-2016), and head of the preparatory section (1999-2003). After obtaining a licentiate in spiritual theology (2005) and a diploma in spiritual counselling from the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality “Teresianum”, Rome (2007), he went on to serve as spiritual director (2009-2012 and 2014-2020), spiritual accompanier (2012-2014) and teacher of spiritual theology (2012-2020) in the Notre-Dame d’Haiti Major Seminary. Since 2020, he has been parish priest of the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral of Port-au-Prince and chair of the diocesan Commission for Catechesis and the Liturgy.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Wismick Jean-Charles, S.M.M.

Msgr. Wismick Jean-Charles, S.M.M., was born on 29 November 1963 in Petites-Desdunes, in the diocese of Les Gonaïves. After his secondary studies he entered the Salesian postulate in Thorland, continuing his studies in philosophy in the Notre-Dame d’Haiti Major Seminary.

He was ordained a priest on 15 January 1995.

After ordination, he first held the roles of parish vicar of Saint-Georges de Bassin-Bleu, diocese of Port-de-Paix (1995-1997), and parish vicar of Saint Brigid in Westbury, diocese of Rockville Centre, New York (1997-2000 and 2009-2012). He obtained a master’s degree in psychological counselling (1999), a master’s degree in education sciences (2009), a doctorate in psychology and a certificate in spiritual direction (2011) from Fordham Jesuit University of New York, and went on to serve as director general of the Notre-Dame de Lourdes College of the Montfortans, diocese of Port-de-Paix (2000-2005); diocesan director of the Justice and Peace Commission in the diocese of Port-de-Paix (2002-2005); provincial secretary and provincial counsellor of the Montfortans, Port-au-Prince (2002-2006); master of novices of the Montfortan novitiate, Lavaud (2005-2006); parish vicar of the parish of Saint Anne, Brentwood, New York (2006-2009); post-doctoral specialization in global mental health at Harvard University (2011-2012); vice rector for Academic and Scientific Affairs of the Université Notre-Dame d’Haïti (2012-2017); provincial counsellor (2012-2015); director of the Montfortan Marian Centre of Turgeau and director of the Evangelization, Spirituality and Mental Health Centre (2012-2017); parish priest of Saint-Louis de France in Turgeau (2013-2017); vicar general of the Society of Mary (Montfortan Missionaries) and general assistant within the General Council responsible for Montfortans in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean (2017-2023). Since 2017, he has been chair of the International Commission for the Protection of Minors of the Society of Mary in Rome.
