Credential Letters of the Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See, 17.05.2024

This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience His Excellency Mr. Boris Sahakyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See, on the occasion of the presentation of his credential letters.

The following is a brief biography of the new ambassador:

 

His Excellency Mr. Boris Sahakyan
Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See

His Excellency Mr. Boris Sahakyan was born on 19 December 1971 in Yerevan, Armenia, and is married with two children.

He graduated in engineering from the State University of Engineering (Polytechnic) of Armenia, and attended training courses in Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the Netherlands (2000), at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Germany (2001) and the UN Disarmament Scholarship Program (2007).

He has held the following offices: attaché at the Verification Division, Department for Arms Control and Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-2001), third secretary of the Division for the Conventional Arms Control, Department for Arms Control and International Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-2003), second secretary of the Embassy in Austria and the Permanent Mission at the OSCE; the Office of the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna (2003-2006), first secretary of the Division for Political-Military Cooperation, Department for Arms Control and International Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2007), head of the Division for Political-Military Cooperation, Department for Arms Control and International Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007-2010), first secretary of the Embassy in Italy (2011), advisor to the Embassy in Italy (2011-2014), advisor to the Secretariat of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2014-2017), special envoy and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Embassy in the Russian Federation (2017-2021), advisor to the Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021), and secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021-2024).
