Resignation and appointment of bishop of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto and union in persona Episcopi of the dioceses of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto and Ascoli Piceno, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto, Italy, presented by Bishop Carlo Bresciani.

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Gianpiero Palmieri, bishop of Ascoli Piceno, as bishop of the diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto, Italy, uniting the two Sees in persona Episcopi.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Gianpiero Palmieri was born on 22 March 1966 in Taranto, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. He attended the Pontifical Roman Minor Seminary and continued his formation at the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 19 September 1992 for the diocese of Rome, and was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has held the following roles: vice rector of the Pontifical Roman Minor Seminary (1992-1997), deputy diocesan ecclesiastical assistant of Italian Catholic Action (1992-1999), attaché of the Pastoral Centre for Evangelization and Catechesis of the Vicariate of Rome (1996-1997); parish vicar of Santi Simone e Giuda Taddeo in Torre Angela (1997-1999) and San Frumenzio (1999-2004), representative of the parish vicars of the North Sector in the Presbyteral Council (2003-2005), parish priest of San Frumenzio (2004-2016), prefect of the Ninth Prefecture (2007-2010), representative of parish priests of the North Sector of the Presbyteral Council (2011-2017), parish priest (2016-2018) and parish administrator (2018) of San Gregorio Magno, and head of the Service for the Permanent Formation of the Clergy (2017-2018).

He was appointed titular bishop of Idassa and auxiliary of the diocese of Rome on 18 May 2018, and was ordained a bishop on 24 June 2018. On 19 September 2020, he was appointed archbishop vicegerent of Rome.

On 29 October 2021 he was transferred to the diocese of Ascoli Piceno.

Within the Italian Episcopal Conference he has been vice president since 2023, and is a member of the presidency of Caritas. Within the Episcopal Conference of the Marches Region he is bishop delegate for social problems and employment, and delegate for charity.

 

Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Cascavel, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Mário Scalon Angonese as metropolitan archbishop of Cascavel, Brazil, transferring him from the diocese of Uruguaiana.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Mário Scalon Angonese was born on 1 June 1960 in Unistalda, diocese of Uruguaiana, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Viamão of the archdiocese of Porto Alegre, he attended a specialization course in psychopedagogy.

He was ordained a priest on 16 December 1989, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Santa Maria.

He has held the following offices: vocational promoter, spiritual director and then rector of the minor seminary, parish priest of Santíssima Trindade in Nova Palma-RS and of Ressurreição in Santa Maria-RS, and rector of the major seminary.

He was appointed titular bishop of Giufi and auxiliary of the archdicose of Curitiba on 20 February 2013, and received episcopal ordination the following 28 April. On 31 May 2017 he was transferred as bishop of Uruguaiana.

Within the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Laity.

 

Appointment of bishop of Maintirano, Madagascar

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Clément Herizo Rakotoasimbola, M.S., until now parish priest of the district of Antsalova and vicar delegate of the apostolic administrator of Maintirano.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Clément Herizo Rakotoasimbola, M.S., was born on 27 November 1974 in Ambohipihaonana – Ambohimanga, Rova. After studying philosophy at the Saint Paul Seminary in Tsaramasoandro, he studied theology in the major seminary of Faliarivo.

He gave his first vows as part of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette in 2010, and subsequently obtained a master’s degree in biblical theology from the Université Catholique de Madagascar in Ambatoroka.

After two years of pastoral experience in Ankavandra and Mandoto, and after his juniorate at the Spiritual Centre of Antsahasoa, he gave his perpetual vows in 2015.

He was ordained a priest on 30 July 2016.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar in Ankazomiriotra and head of the Saint Michel High School in Ankazomiriotra (2016-2019), parish priest of Antsalova (since 2019), vicar general of Maintirano (2021-2023), and vicar delegate of the apostolic administrator (since 2023).

 

Appointment of bishop of Roseau, Dominica

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Kendrick John Forbes, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Nassau, Bahamas, until now vicar general, judicial vicar and parish priest of Saint Paul in Nassau, as bishop of Roseau, Dominica.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Kendrick John Forbes was born on 20 August 1975 in Nassau, Bahamas, and was ordained a priest on 11 June 2002. He received his formation at Saint Meinrad College Seminary and School of Theology, Indiana, United States of America, obtaining a Master of Divinity and a master’s degree in theology. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America.

He has held the following offices: assistant to the parish priest of the Cathedral (2002-2004), parish priest of the Holy Family parish, Nassau (2004-2006), judicial vicar (since 2004), parish priest of Saint Paul the Apostle, Nassau (since 2006), chairman of the Archdiocesan Review Board (since 2012) and vicar general of Nassau (since 2017).

 

Appointment of bishop of Tarawa and Nauru

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Father Simon Mani, M.S.C., until now rector of the Pacific Regional Seminary of Suva, as bishop of Tarawa and Nauru.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Simone Mani, M.S.C., was born on 27 March 1969 in Labasa, on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji. He studied philosophy at the Pacific Regional Seminary, for the religious congregation of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

He gave his religious vows in 1991, and was ordained a priest on 30 November 1996.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Saint Agnes, Suva (1997), teacher at the M.S.C. Professional Institute for disadvantaged youth – Chevalier Training Center (1998), parish priest of Saint Agnes (1999-2004), M.S.C. provincial bursar for the Pacific (2003-2005), M.S.C. provincial superior (2005-2015), director of the Chevalier Training Center (2015-2018), and rector of the Pacific Regional Seminary of Suva (since 2018).
