Today the Holy Father Francis received in audience His Excellency Mr. Tamás Sulyok, President of the Republic of Hungary, who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial meeting at the Secretariat of State, the good bilateral relations were evoked and appreciation was expressed for the commitment of the Catholic Church to the development of Hungarian society. Some issues of common interest were then considered, with special reference to families, young people, and attention towards the world’s most vulnerable Christian communities.

Mention was then made of the conflict in Ukraine, with particular reference to its humanitarian consequences and efforts to promote peace.
