Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Olomouc, Czech Republic
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Josef Nuzík as metropolitan archbishop of Olomouc, Czech Republic, transferring him from the titular see of Castra Galbae and from the office of auxiliary of the same archdiocese.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Josef Nuzík was born on 25 July 1966 in Stráni, in the archdiocese of Olomouc. After work experience and military service, he studied at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Prague, based in Litomĕřice, and at the Palacký University Olomouc, where he was awarded a master’s degree.
He was ordained a priest on 17 June 1995.
He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest in Nový Jičín (1995-1996); deputy parish priest in Luhačovice and Pozlovice (1996-1997); parish administrator in Nivnice and in Korytná (1997-2002); parish priest in Nivnice (2002-2003); parish priest in Štípa u Zlína, administrator of Hvozdná, and vicar forane in Vizovice (2003-2005); vice rector of the diocesan seminary of Olomouc (2005-2009); delegate for vocations to the priesthood (2007-2009); since 2009, canon of the Metropolitan Chapter in Olomouc, and vicar general.
On 5 July 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Castra Galbae, and auxiliary of Olomouc, receiving episcopal consecration the following 14 October. On 4 July 2022 he was elected diocesan administrator of the archdiocese of Olomouc.
