Appointment of bishop of Plymouth, Great Britain

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Canon Christopher Whitehead, of the clergy of the diocese of Clifton, as bishop of Plymouth, Great Britain.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Christopher Whitehead was born in Gloucester on 24 August 1969. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from Saint Mary’s College, Oscott, and was ordained on 1 July 1994 for the diocese of Clifton.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Mary’s, Bath, and chaplain at the Clifton Catholic Fellowship (1994-1996); parish vicar of Saint Mary on the Quay in Bristol (1996-1998); parish vicar of the Cathedral of Clifton (1998-2000); parish priest of Saint George’s in Warminster (2000-2006); parish priest of Saint Bernadette’s in Whitchurch, Bristol (2006-2015); director of the Department of Adult Education and Evangelization (2015-2018); parish priest of Immaculate Conception, Stroud (2018-2019); vicar forane of the zone of Stroud (2018-2019); since 2019, parish priest of Saint John the Evangelist in Bath, canon of the Cathedral Chapter of Clifton and vicar forane of the Bath area.
