Resignation and appointment of bishop of Mercedes, Uruguay
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mercedes, Uruguay, presented by Bishop Carlos Maria Collazzi Irazábal, S.D.B.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luis Eduardo González Cedrés, hitherto auxiliary of Montevideo, as bishop of the diocese of Mercedes, Uruguay.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Luis Eduardo González Cedrés was born in Montevideo on 15 January 1972. After studying systems engineering, he attended the Faculty of Theology in Montevideo.
He was ordained a priest on 18 April 2009 and incardinated in Maldonado-Punta del Este.
He has held the following offices: supervisor of youth pastoral and vocational care (2009-2012); secretary chancellor of the Curia (2009-2014); parish administrator of Nuestra Señora del Rosario (since 2010); vicar general (2014-2018); and formator (2013-2016) and rector (2016-2023) of the interdiocesan seminary.
On 11 May 2018 he was appointed titular bishop of Thugga and auxiliary of Montevideo, and was consecrated on the following 17 June.
Within the Episcopal Conference, he is head of the Department for Liturgy, Vocations and Ministries.
