The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop George George Panamthundil, titular archbishop-elect of Floriana, apostolic nuncio in Kazakhstan, as apostolic nuncio in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

 

Appointment of bishop of Shanghai, China

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Joseph Shen Bin as bishop of Shanghai, in continental China, transferring him from the diocese of Haimen, province of Jiangsu.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Joseph Shen Bin was born on 23 February 1970 in Qidong, in the province of Jiangsu. After carrying out his studies in philosophy Sheshan, Shanghai, and in theology in Beijing, he was ordained a priest on 1 November 1996. He then carried out his pastoral ministry in the diocese of Haimen, first as parish vicar, in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, then as vicar general, and finally as parish priest in the parish of Mother of God. On 17 April 2010 he was appointed to the see of Haimen, with the consent of the two parties, and on the following 21 April he received episcopal consecration. Since 2022, Bishop Shen Bin is also president of the entity known as the “College of Chinese Catholic Bishops”.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Kinshasa: Reverend Fr. Edouard Tsimba Ngoma, C.I.C.M., until now missionary in Belgium and adjunct episcopal vicar for consecrated life in the diocese of Liegi, assigning him the titular see of Igilgili; and Reverend Edouard Isango Nkoyo, of the clergy of Kinshasa, until now secretary-chancellor of the archdiocese of Kinshasa, assigning him the titular see of Utimmira.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Edouard Tsimba Ngoma, C.I.C.M.

Msgr. Edouard Tsimba Ngoma, C.I.C.M., was born in Boma on 11 April 1957. He attended the minor seminary of Mbata-Kiela, then entering the postulate of the Missionaries of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Scheut) in Kinshasa. He carried out his novitiate in Mbudi, Kinshasa, and gave his religious vows in February 1989 in Haiti. He completed his studies in philosophy at the Canisio Institute (Kimwenza). He subsequently had a missionary experience in Haiti, also attending courses in theology and concluding his studies in Port au Prince.

He was ordained a priest on 13 August 1989.

He has held the following offices: pastoral ministry in Haiti, in various parishes, for vocational and missionary animation (1989-1990); parish vicar of S. Michel de l’Attalaye, diocese of Les Gonaïves, Haiti (1990-1991); specialization in spirituality at the Institute for Religious Formation in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States of America (1991-1993); master of novices, vocational animator and head of internships in his Congregation in Haiti, and national vice-president for the Formation of Consecrated Persons in Haiti (1993-1999); counsellor general (1999-2005) and superior general (2005-2011) of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. From 2006 to 2009 he chaired the Association of Superior Generals of the Missionary Congregations “SEDOS”. He has also served as rector of the interdiocesan major seminary of Bangui (2011-2020) and, since 2021, as a missionary in Belgium and adjunct episcopal vicar for consecrated life in the diocese of Liegi.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Edouard Isango Nkoyo

Msgt. Edouard Isango Nkoyo was born on 1 April 1973 in Kinshasa. He attended the Saint Jean Marie Vianney Minor Seminary and carried out a preparatory year in the Cardinal Malula Seminary of Kinshasa. He studied philosophy in the San André Kaggwa Seminary of Kinshasa, and theology in the Saint Jean XXIII Major Seminary in Kinshasa. He subsequently obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Catholic University of Kinshasa (1999-2002).

After pastoral experience in the parishes of Notre Dame de la Sagesse in Kinshasa (2000-2002), he was ordained a priest on 4 August 2002 for the clergy of Kinshasa.

Following ordination, he first held the offices of adjunct chancellor of the archdiocese of Kinshasa (2002-2003) and academic secretary of the Saint André Kaggwa Major Seminary (2003-2009 and 2017-2018). He carried out doctoral research in the Faculty of Philosophy in Munich, and provided pastoral service in the archdiocese of Munich (2010-2016). He served as parish vicar of Saint Georg in Wasserburg, in the diocese of Augsburg (2017); parish vicar of Saint Luc, Kinshasa (2017-2018); vice rector (2018-2020) and then rector of the San André Kaggwa Major Seminary (2020-2021). Since 2021, he has been secretary-chancellor of the archdiocese of Kinshasa and, since 2022, executive secretary of the Provincial Episcopal Assembly of Kinshasa.

 

Appointment of apostolic visitator for faithful of Syro-Malankara rite in Oceania

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Antony Mar Silvanos (Kakkanat) of the Major Archepiscopal Curia of the Syro-Malankara Church as apostolic visitator for faithful of Syro-Malankara rite in Oceania.

 

Appointment of special envoy to the closing Mass of the IV Forum Europeu de Irmandades e Confrarias

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, as his special envoy to preside over the closing Mass of the IV Forum Europeu de Irmandades e Confrarias, to take place on 17 September 2023 in the Basilica of Mafra, Portugal, on the occasion of which the canonical coronation of Our Lady of Sorrows (Nossa Senhora da Soledade) will take place.
