Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Moncton, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Moncton, Canada, presented by Archbishop Valéry Vienneau.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Guy Desrochers, C.SS.R., until now of Pembroke, as metropolitan archbishop of Moncton, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Guy Desrochers was born on 23 May 196 in Hull, Québec, in the current archdiocese of Gatineau. In 1983 he entered the novitiate of the Redemptorist Fathers in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. He gave his religious vows on 29 August 1987, and was ordained a priest on 7 January 1989.

On 12 December 2018 he was elected to the titular see of Melzi, and appointed auxiliary bishop of the then-diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. The following 22 February he received episcopal ordination. On 6 May 2020 he was transferred to the episcopal see of Pembroke.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Banjarmasin, Indonesia

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Banjarmasin, Indonesia, presented by Bishop Petrus Boddeng Timang.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Victorius Dwiardy, O.F.M. Cap., until now definitor general of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Victorius Dwiardy, O.F.M. Cap., was born in Sebalos, archdiocese of Pontianak, on 14 December 1968. After entering the novitiate of the Capuchins of Parapat, he continued his philosophical and theological studies in the Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Pematangsiantar, Sumatra. He gave his religious vows in 1997 and was ordained a priest on 10 October 1998.

After ordination, he first held the roles of deputy parish priest of the Cathedral of Pontianak (1998-2001) and of St. Fransiskus Asisi in Tebet, Jakarta. He studied for a degree in civil law at the Christian University in Jakarta (2002-2008). He went on to serve as president of the Dharma Insan Foundation (2008-2013); chancellor of the archdiocese of Pontianak (2008-2012); counsellor of the Capuchin Province of Pontianak (2009-2012); and provincial minister of the Capuchins of Pontianak (2012-2013). Since 2013 he has held the office of definitor general of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in Rome, currently in his second mandate, and since 2020, with responsibility for the Asia-Pacific Region.

 

Resignation of auxiliary bishop of Fort Portal, Uganda

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Fort Portal, Uganda, presented by Bishop Joseph Mugenyi Sabiiti.

 

Appointment of bishop of Jowai, India

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Ferdinand Dhkar, of the clergy of Jowai, until now diocesan administrator, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Ferdinand Dhkar was born in Longkaluh, in the diocese of Jowai, on 26 February 1962. After attending the minor seminary in Upper Shillong, Meghalaya, he studied philosophy at Christ King College and theology at Oriens Theological College in the archdiocese of Shillong.

He was ordained a priest on 23 January for the diocese of Jowai.

He has held the following offices: dean of studies at the minor seminary of Shillong (1994-1995); deputy parish priest of the Annunciation Church, Namdong (1995-2000); deputy parish priest (2000-2002) and then parish priest (2002-2007) of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ummulong; parish priest of the Annunciation Church and head of a high school in Namdong (2007-2009); and procurator of the diocese of Jowai (2009-2021). From 2021 to the present, he has served as diocesan administrator of Jowai.

 

Appointment of special envoy to the celebration of the coronation of the image of Our Lady “Health of the Sick” (Shrine of Smolice, Poznán, Poland, 9 September 2023)

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Dominik Duka, O.P., archbishop emeritus of Praha (Prague), as his special envoy to the celebration of the coronation of the image of Our Lady “Health of the Sick”, venerated since the sixteenth century in the archdiocesan Shrine of Smolice in Poznán, Poland, to take place on 9 September 2023.
