Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Mechelen-Brussel, Belgium

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussel, Belgium, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Jozef De Kesel.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Luc Terlinden, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now vicar general, as archbishop of Mechelen-Brussel, Belgium.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Luc Terlinden was born on 17 October 1968 in Etterbeek, Brussels. After obtaining a degree in economic sciences and a bachelor’s degree in commercial engineering, he carried out his Military Service, had a brief professional experience as a secondary school teacher, and subsequently entered the diocesan seminary of Mechelen-Brussel. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Universitè Catholique de Louvain and in theology from the Centre d’études thèologiques et pastorales (CETEP).

He was ordained a priest on 18 September 1999 for the archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussel, and was then awarded a degree in moral theology from the Pontifical Alphonsian University of Rome.

He has held the following offices: vicar of Saint-François d’Assise in Louvain-la-Neuve and founder of the Oratory based on the Italian model (since 2003); head of the diocesan Vocations Service (2005-2014); parish priest of Sainte-Croix in Ixelles (since 2010); head of the pastoral unit and founder of the Pôle Jeunes XL (since 2013); president of the archdiocesan seminary, member of the Episcopal Council and and titular canon of Saint-Rombaut Cathedral in Mechelen (since 2017); lecturer in moral theology at the Francophone Major Seminary in Namur; until now, vicar general of the archdiocese, moderator of the Episcopal Council and head of the Vicariate for Francophone Formation.

 

Appointment of bishop of Palmerston North, New Zealand

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend John Lewis Adams, of the clergy of Christchurch, until now parish priest of Saint Peter Chanel, as bishop of the diocese of Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. John Lewis Adams was born in Christchurch on 18 November 1963. He attended the Holy Cross Major Seminary in Auckland, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology. In addition, he was awarded a diploma in education from Christchurch Technical College, a bachelor of science in geography from Canterbury University in New Zealand, and an advanced diploma in theology in Sydney, Australia.

He was ordained a priest on 4 June 2003 for the diocese of Christchurch.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest; administrator of the Saint Mary parish in Greymouth (2005-2007); chaplain of tertiary schools (2008-2010); parish priest of Saint Joseph’s (2011-2018); member of the Clergy Trust Fund (2011-2021); since 2009, member of the Presbyteral Council and, since 2015, president; since 2013, episcopal vicar for education and, since 2014, member of the College of Consultors; and to date, parish priest of Saint Peter Chanel.
