This afternoon, Wednesday 21 June 2023, the Holy Father Francis received in audience, in the study of the Paul VI Hall, the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who subsequently met with Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.

During the cordial discussions, appreciation was expressed for the good relations between Brazil and the Holy See, emphasizing the good collaboration between the Church and the State with a view to the promotion of moral values and the common good.

Finally, there was a positive exchange of views on the socio-political situation of the region, and mention was made of some themes of common interest, such as the promotion of peace and reconciliation, the fight against poverty and inequality, respect for indigenous populations, and the protection of the environment.
