Appointment of Holy See Permanent Observer at the United Nations Office and Specialized Institutions in Geneva, and at the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Holy See Representative at the International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Ettore Balestrero, titular of Victoriana, until now apostolic nuncio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as Holy See Permanent Observer at the United Nations Office and Specialized Institutions in Geneva, and at the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Holy See Representative at the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Concordia, Argentina

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Concordia, Argentina, presented by Bishop Luis Armando Collazuol.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Gustavo Gabriel Zurbriggen, until now bishop prelate of Deán Funes, as bishop of Concordia, Argentina.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Gustavo Gabriel Zurbriggen was born in Curupaity, diocese of Rafaela, on 28 November 1963. He attended the Córdoba Seminary and obtained the title of Professor in religious sciences and a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina.

He was ordained a priest on 26 October 1990.

After ordination, he first served as vicar in various parishes. He was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1998) and went on to serve as parish vicar of the Cathedral and then parish priest of Santa Catalina de Siena (2000-2006); parish priest of the Cathedral; lecturer in theology in the seminaries of Paraná and Cordobá; member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council and the Team for the Ongoing Formation of the Clergy; and coordinator of the Diocesan Pastoral Board.

On 12 October 2011 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of the prelature of Deán Funes, receiving episcopal ordination on 9 December 2011. From 21 December 2013 to the present, he has served as bishop prelate of Deán Funes. Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference, he is president of the Episcopal Commission for University Pastoral Care.
